    Default Pre-Holiday Whole-House Clean: 2017 Edition

    So, since I've been hosting Girl Scout meetings in my house, things haven't gotten as out of hand as they've been in years past. This is kind of awesome and I feel good about it.

    However, there still needs to be some movement towards cleaning up, and I have three days left before my annual family party in which to do it.

    AVAILABLE WEEKDAYS:

    Tuesday, 12/19
    Wednesday, 12/20* (needs to be split into 9a-11a and 1p-3:30p; it's also Scout meeting day, so everything needs to wrap by 5:30pm)
    Thursday, 12/21

    (Weather-depending, I may also have Friday, 12/22. If the weather is nice, we have plans to spend the day in Philly. If it's wretched, DD has an early dismissal, and DH and I have tentative plans to shop for food for our party.)

    ZONES:

    ZONE 1
    Living Room

    ZONE 2
    Dining Room

    ZONE 3
    Kitchen

    ZONE 4
    Upstairs Hallway - includes linen closet (4C) and guest bath (4B)

    ZONE 5
    3rd Floor - includes three closets, two of which have been sorted

    ZONE 6
    Entryway, Stairs, & 1st Landing - includes coat closet (6C) and powder room (6B)

    ZONE M
    Master Bedroom - includes linen closet (M-L), clothes closet (M-C), and bathroom (M-B)

    ZONE DD
    DD's Bedroom

    Priorities:

    ZONE 1, ZONE 2, ZONE 3, ZONE 4, and ZONE 6.

    Nice-to-Have pre-Party:

    ZONE 5, ZONE DD, and ZONE M

    SCHEDULE

    Tuesday, 12/19

    ZONE 1, ZONE 2, ZONE 3 (primary focus will be on ZONE 3) plus laundry

    Wednesday, 12/20

    Morning
    Carryover tasks

    Good luck! Is this zone system based on some website or book or something? Or is it your own methodology?

    The zones as I've numbered them are my own, but I feel like I couldn't possibly have come up with the concept of slicing up my house into smaller chunks on my own!

    I started on my 1st floor and walked upstairs to determine which number would be assigned to which room/zone, then I use the zones to shorthand what I can get done in a school day during my cleanup sessions.

    So, basically, if I'm hosting a party, I want Zones 1-4 plus 6 done before the party because I can close/lock doors to everywhere else. Zone 6 takes the least amount of time, but requires the most maintenance because of shoes, coats, and assorted school detritus from DD.
