Default Prime Rib Vs Beef Tenderloin

Which one am I less likely to mess up? My sister said the Prime Ribs that are on sale in a regular grocery store will not compare as to what I can buy at a butchers. But I am not looking to spend $20 a pound. Want to do something different for Christmas Day other than ham.

Any recommendations on which I should choose?

    Thanks!

I love beef tenderloin but have never made it. I made this Prime Rib earlier this year and it was SO GOOD. I decidedly to make it for Christmas. The first time I used a boneless rib roast I got at the super market. I did go to a butcher this time because I felt like splurging for Christmas but I think you'll be happy with a super market cut.

Costco had a very nice prime rib with embedded garlic in years past. It was ready to go into the oven. All we had to do is monitor temperature via a thermometer. I am not sure if they have it this year though.

My vote is Prime Rib. We have been using the following ridiculously simple recipe for years with amazing success. The only caveat is that if you have a newer oven that has a fan that comes on when you turn the oven off, you might have to unplug it or turn off the circuit breaker.
