Where to stay in Boston?

We’re planning a trip to Boston this summer. We’ll be passing through on our way to Maine. We’re planning to arrive Saturday around lunch and leave Monday after lunch. The main reason for the stop over is to see a Red Sox game Saturday night. I want to see the duck statues in the Public Gardens. We’ll have a 10 yo and 8 yo with us. What are your must do sights for those ages. We’ll return to Boston at some point for a more thorough stay. Where should we Stay? Near the ballpark? Somewhere else? TIA

Perhaps somewhere in Back Bay near the Prudential Center? That will be walking distance to both Fenway and the Public Garden (in different directions).

I'd stay near the Commons/Public Gardens/Newbury Street. This would be Back Bay or Beacon Hill areas. Kenmore (where the red sox are) is also a good option.
