thanks everyone for your feedback! I'm going to go with it. Ideally DH would get a v but he won't. Of course work is crazy right now but I'm just going for it (it's scheduled for May 31st), I sat down with the schedule person and we came up with some ideas for covering the 3 shifts I'll be missing. We're a small self staffed unit so coverage is hard-especially in the summer and we're loosing several people in July so it was now or wait until mid sept which is hard with the back to school crazies.

Not to jump down on you to hijack or make you feel worst. But why your Dh won’t go for the v? your procedure is much more invasive with longer recovery time. You after all did bear the children, birthed them etc! So least your Dh do is take one for the team to do his turn!

Totally different if you want it for more reasons beyond the birth control factor and already gonna under for c section or something else and they can do your tubal while there. But to just go in, get opened up, etc just for the tubal and to add in your scheduling issues with work too.

I’ll shut up if it’s a sensitive topic for you but it really peeves me to no end to see this in couples with the wife doing more, all because Dh won’t. The general dh, not specifically yours.

He just won't do it. He knows he should do it but he won't. I've always know he wouldn't get it done.

I'm curious, is the Mirena no longer working for you? I have a friend who is 37, and is about to get another one put in, she loves it. I've had a number of friends who have had tubals, most ended up with heavier periods like others mentioned.

    Default Tubal?

My DH said he would do a V, made appointment and we’re sitting in the waiting room with him reading the informational material he was given before meeting the Dr. DH fainted. He can’t cope with medical procedures, and because of the fainting, the Dr said he would give DH drugs to get to the clinic and do the procedure under sedation. DH was prepared to go through it, but I knew the lead up to the surgery would require a lot of drugs. It was easier for me to stay on the pill. And now I expect I’m too old to get pregnant or close to being too old. Can you get another mirena?

So yes, some DHs won’t/can’t do a V.

    Default Tubal?

I just got a new Paragard and it might last me to menopause. Might need a few more years of something when the Paragard expires but realistically it will last me 12 more years (new stats) so I might be good. Love my IUD- no hormones, super long lasting, reversible.
My sister has, and really liked Essure (sp?). She’s been using it almost since it hit the market.

I had a tubal about a year ago, and really glad I did. Here's my story:

Was on the pill starting around 20 maybe. Went off around 29 when I wanted to have babies. Had 2 babies (mini-pill between). They I got the Mirena - didn't want to remember to take the pill. It was great for a lot of reasons, but I felt an underlying anxiety that I'd never felt, and read up on it and found that others had similar weird side effects from the Mirena hormones as well. So I had that removed and got a paraguard. That worked, but my periods were heavy and really painful, so looked into other options. Had that removed to do essure. About a year into essure, I was having a good amount of lower abdomen pain (felt like mild cramps all the time), and it was strange. Again, googled it, and found I wasn't alone, a lot of people were having issues with essure. I talked to my OB, and he said he was no longer doing essure because of what he was hearing about it. We agreed that I should go to a specialist in my area who was experienced at removing essure (we was not, but would have tried) and doing a tubal at the same time.

What a relief - all went well with the removal of the essure and my tubes. Yes periods which are annoying (but they were before I was on bc). But I'm so glad to have no hormones and don't worry about birth control. A co-worker/friend who recommended the specialist told me to schedule some days of rest after the procedure. Time to take care of yourself, let your body recover from the procedure. I think I had it on a Thursday or Friday and was back at work the next week. But it was nice to know I had a few days to relax and heal first.

BTW, DH also didn't want to get a vasectomy. I respect his decision, there's a virility involved with it for him. It's a very personal decision, and I respect that. If I demanded it, he would have. But I didn't feel that need. Yes, bc has been my responsibility, but we're a team, and now it's not on either of us! Much easier for me to get my tubes removed than him go through a VC, in our case.
