I think the dress is a bit casual for a night time yacht party but you might be able to make it work if you add some fancy accessories. I would do high strappy heels in black or metallic, a fancy evening bag (think beaded or metallic) and big chandelier earrings.

I’m in SoCal and in our group, cocktail attire usually means a knee length or higher evening dress in satin or chiffon or a slinky jersey, sometimes with beadwork, usually in a darker color, especially at this time of year. Our group in in their early 40s which means lots of 40th birthday parties so we’ve been going to a lot of parties for the past couple years now. I get a lot of my cocktail dresses from Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. I have several pairs of strappy high heels in different metallics and black leather too so I pair those along with a fancy evening clutch and jewelry.

I would check Anthropologie or Nordstrom.

    What about this one? https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/d...sses&color=007

    Or this: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/f...sses&color=001

I could still zip it up, but even with my Squeem cincher on the tightest setting it's just a little too snug to be comfortable for an entire night! So now what? I guess I need to get a new dress! Any suggestions?
OOPS hate when that happens! Good thing you tried it on well in advance!! I thought it was a bit casual as well. I say hit Nordstrom, The Rack, TJMaxx etc and see what pops up.

I'd get a shorter dress, with some sparkle, I don't think those anthropolgie ones show off your fabulously figure. I bet you find lots of options.

I agree. Those legs are worth showing off. I found a good number of good ones at White House/ Black Market. Nordstrom is always good too.

I love the color of that dress! Since you can’t wear it now...I still would opt for shorter dress, as agree to show off your fabulous legs! But along in bright colorful like the one you show us.

I figure it’s in Scal and on a yacht too, female guests probably want to wear colorful dresses. Nordstrom and the rack got great options...is RTR still too tight of timeframe for you?? Thought they’re quick.

Here are some options I am considering for an after work gala in NYC with "festive" attire. I also have recent weight gain due to medication change and where a size 6 or 8. I would use a wrap if I chose the sleeveless options. Sleeves are a bonus to cover my PICC line (place on arm for IV fluids). I chose blues as a break from all the black.

This could be fun (and it's on a great sale today) https://www.gap.com/browse/product.d...&pid=384714022

This is similar to your original dress. Wish I could have found it in a pretty color but black is always useful https://www.whitehouseblackmarket.co...Id=cat11679473

And what about DH? Does he need to wear a suit? He actually only has one suit that's probably 10 years old and too big! He's never needed to wear a suit. He said he'd be willing to get a new one since he could use it in the future. We're 36 and 37 so haven't even been to any 40th birthday parties yet!

For me, I have a mall walking distance from my house with a Macy's and Bloomingdales, no Nordstrom. I HATE shopping in stores! I'd rather do anything else.

    He should have a suit.
Sadly enough, in not too many years, funerals become more common too so it’s good to have a suit on hand for those at least.
