Default That’s not going to work. At all.

The beginning of the bitching about the annual in-law visit for the holidays.

They are arriving Xmas eve. It’s DHs parents, brother, sister, BIL, and nephew. Sister, BIL, and nephew will stay in our guest room, others in a hotel.

DH tells them not to bother to rent a car because we can pick them up at the airport in my 6 person MDX. Math doesn’t work. Plus, no luggage space. DH thinks one can “squeeze in the middle” with no seat/seatbelt for the 45 min highway drive from the airport. And they can carry their suitcases on their laps. And we can lend them our second car to come and go from the hotel. To save them like $200 renting a car??

Thinking of “needing to be at work” some days of their stay...

Six people staying in two different places, they need a rental car (possibly more than one)! Unless you have enough cars and they can take one exclusively...

Put your foot down on this one... You will ALL be happier with them having their own car!

Make sure they have Uber/Lyft on their phones, since you will certainly need to be at work!

I'd put my foot down on the cramming too many people and too much luggage into my MDX as well. I mean, that just isn't going to be safe or comfortable.

If you live somewhere with Uber/Lift/Taxi service that might substitute for a rental car, but they would have to be willing to use it...

I'm guessing the ticket for having someone unrestrained in a non seat + the ins surcharge is = or more than the $200 saved in rental fees. Police often have roadblocks for this type stuff around the holidays.

Not to mention how dh is going to feel if his mother/father/sis etc is launched through the windshield in an accident.

OR, you could plan a vacation somewhere sunny from Dec 26 - they leave and let DH and his family fend for themselves.....

Yeah they need Uber/Lyft! Or get a shuttle from the airport. Lots of better options!
