    Default Dress for a wedding??

I’ve to go a family wedding later this month with winter wonderland as the theme and coloring scheme.

Invitation says cocktail attire. I’ve no idea where to start?? Can you tell me your favorite dresses for this type of night out and I’ll see whether my local Nordstrom Rack have it. I’m in NJ so I suppose the classical thing is go with black dresses if in doubt?

Also there’s a gap of 3 hours between church and reception. Do most people wear same outfit to church and reception or change into different one for reception? Even though this kind of thing is very common but only in recent years and the last formal wedding I went was 6 years ago which didn’t have that gap.

Black wouldn’t be my first choice. Blue seems more winter wonderland to me.
Few people have a place to change between ceremony and reception so stay in the same outfit, ime.

Look at navy lace dresses, there was a thread awhile back. No need to change, people will just go somewhere for drinks or a small bite to eat in between.

Yes, or plum. I bought a plum lace dress from Nordstrom for the cocktail attire party I went to last month but didn't end up wearing it (wore a navy dress instead). You can also get dresses for cheap at Bloomingdales! I went there with my mom and with their current sale at the time and picking a dress that was already on sale I ended up with a dress for $75 and my mom ended up getting one that ended up being $45 after all the discounts!

I'm not recommending this dress, I'm not familiar with the brand. But this look of navy with bling is very winter wonderland to me. I think silver and/or navy are wintery.

Ok, Black is out. I look good in navy, purple, plum, burgundy and the like coloring.

Wondering if Nordstrom rack have personal shopper or is that in Nordstrom only? Cuz the Nordstrom store is a good bit away from me but the Rack is only 15 mins away.

Normally I order online 99.9% of the time and send back 2-3 items while keeping the best one. But worried it’ll be too time consuming to do this and just bite the bullet to go in person....which I hate.

    Agree on navy, plum etc.

I would order from Nordstrom and/or Macy's. To me the Rack is SO SO SO hit or miss, that you're likely to go there, find nothing, and then have to order.

The Rack is the discount store and does not have a shopper service. Years ago they used to have great things that were from the real store but marked down, especially formal and cocktail dresses. But now just seems full of stuff made for it that is cheaper and not great, like the fake outlet mall stuff (as in not really an item ever sold in the real store but cheap version). I’d order some options online and send back what I don’t want or drive to the real store. Have fun, there are lots of options. With a three hour break, some people may change. If I had access to my house or hotel, I would consider it and bling it up a bit for the reception.
