Very sad to see such a landmark destroyed.

I’m so irrationally sad about this. I know it’s just a building but it feels important and irreplaceable and I’m just so filled with sadness. I’m just catching the news on it. Hopefully crews are quick to get the flames out.

Default Cathedral of Notre Dame Is on Fire

I heard the entire church will be destroyed. I’m very sad about it. I’m an art historian, and I’m sure we will discuss it in class tomorrow. Medieval architecture was one of my minor areas of study in grad school. I went to Easter mass at Notre Dame when I was a senior in college (spring break trip while studying abroad.).

Bisous, it is incredibly sad. It’s like the Statue of Liberty burning down.

The only good I see so far is that they got the relics and art out. It sounds like a low chance that they will be able to save the building.

ETA: And now the latest news says there is still artwork they are trying to save. Sigh.

The stained glass windows? I assume they are inside. Plus all of the sculptural decoration on the doors.

I've been watching it all day, it is so heartbreaking. All that beauty and history destroyed in a matter of hours!
