Edit or not edit?

Before my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, I did a video interview of him. It’s been sitting on the computer hard drive, and I need to do something with it. Dad answered questions about his childhood, life etc. In it my dad gave advice to his 3 daughters. My younger sister would be very upset at Dad’s comment for her. I know dad meant no ill intent, but he said he wishes she’ll learn from her mistakes and get her life together. When he said it, my heart sank as I knew how she would react to him saying that about her. He said complimentary things about my older sister and me, so in comparison, it sounds bad.

DH is a trailer editor, he can edit that whole question out and no one would know. My gut reaction when Dad said the comment was to have DH edit it out. But that feels wrong too. And it’s probably why I haven’t done anything with the video.

Any advice?

I would take it out as no good will come of it and it would hurt her feelings. You’re lucky that your dh has the expertise to do it properly!

I know..I agree. I know he meant it as parent concerned for his child... just not good to say those thoughts aloud.

DH can make people say words they didn’t say.. he takes a syllable for here, a syllable from there ...

I may scan some photos of Dad when I visit next and DH can make a whole trailer of his life. DH did this for his dad’s retirement and then for family friends’ wedding. He intersperses photos with video, sets it to music, funny comments etc. It‘s a lot of work though, as he won’t just do it quickly, it has to be professional quality, every transition and beat of music just right. And he probably doesn’t have the time. It would be a nice gift to my family though.

I would edit it out and not think twice about it . Nothing good will come from keeping it in.

Will she be just as upset that you & your sister have something said directly about you and she doesn't? Or will it make her suspicious that you asked questions about you two and not her? I would think she'd notice that and know that there was something not complimentary said & possibly be more upset that you "lied" to her.
