    Default Niagara Falls tips?

We're going to be near enough to Niagara Falls this summer to make a day trip...but we could turn it into an overnight if it's worth it. We all have passports, so we'll be able to go to the Canadian side. Should we plan on an overnight? Also, more importantly, do we have to make reservations for the tours in advance? I've never been, I'm pretty excited!

It wouldn't hurt to book something like Maid of the Mist ahead of time. I would do an overnight because it's cool to see the falls lit up at night. We stayed in a falls view room once on the Canadian side (maybe at the Sheraton?) and it was nice to enjoy the falls from the room.
We always hit the American side on our way out of town. Totally different view and worth seeing.
We did a week once in Niagara on the Lake so really got to explore the area. Other fun non-falls things:

Do you have any idea how far in advance we'd need to book? I'll be coordinating with in-laws, so goodness knows when we'll all get on the same page re: what day to visit.
