Default Anyone seen Anastasia (Broadway musical)?

This show will be in San Francisco when DD1 and I are there in late September. It is at The Golden Gate Theatre, which is walking distance to the BART station and across the street from the San Francisco Shopping Center so that is a huge plus. Just wondering if it is worth it.

I'm not seeing it until it comes to LA in October, but I've heard good things

We saw the touring version locally and really liked it, especially my kids.

Thanks! My sister saw the New York show and she said it was okay, but she said she enjoyed the movie more, but part of me thinks that is just her because she has very strong opinions about movies especially ones she has spent her whole life watching. I don’t think I have seen the movie in 20 years and have only seen it once.

We saw it on Broadway and we all LOVED it!! We are big fans of the soundtrack from the movie. The show was missing one of our favorite numbers from the movie which we were sad about but loved it nonetheless.

We saw it when the touring show came through town. We enjoyed it but I thought it had a bit of an identity crisis (did it want to be a funny show, a serious show, etc). But we loved the music so everyone walked away happy.

The stage production cut all the magic/talking bat bits out and tried its best to ground itself in the history of the Romanovs, which may have impacted folks' impressions and expectations.

My aunt-in-law, her daughter, and her granddaughter went to see it before it closed and they liked it, but it wasn't what they'd expected after being huge fans of the movie.

So, basically, don't go in expecting the movie?

I was annoyed it closed before I could get into NYC to see it - the cast was amazing and I've heard most of the OBCR thanks to On Broadway.

Take this with a grain of salt because I saw it BEFORE it went to Broadway (lucky me!!) but my daughters and I LOVED it. My oldest who was 14 at the time thought it was better than Wicked, and I kind of agree! I saw it in a very small and intimate setting, though, so perhaps the experience was different.
