    Default Tipping: one week camp

How much would you tip counselors and helpers for a one week camp program? Between two DDs, there are 8 counselors and 11 helpers.

?? None?? Is that a thing?? Oops.

I think if I did anything it would be to write to the director about your good experience and any noteworthy performance notes about the staff.

My kids have been both camp participants and counselors, And we’ve never actually tipped, though they have given and received small gift cards as a thank you.
Definitely Write a note to the camp director. Those are always cherished by the counselors- I can vouch for that :-)

For a day camp I would not tip. We have tipped just the cabin counselors at overnight camp (there were 2). I think we did it one year or 2 then I noticed in the parent handbook it said no tipping so we have not done it again. I would ask around to see if it is the norm or expected... maybe it is at a for profit camp. My kids go to Y camps.

None--they are compensated per their contract with the camp. A hand written note of thanks is always good though!

My first answer as a parent of a child starting to go to day camps: None!!! Wouldn’t even have occurred to me.

My second thought: When I was in college 20 years ago I spent part of 2 summers working as a coach and counselor at an overnight camp. I was essentially “on the clock” 24 hours a day. I got paid somewhere between $200-250 per week. I never got a tip, but a $20 would have meant the world to me.

I think this is regional. OP Im not sure where you are but tipping was a thing when my kids went to day camp in NY. We are now in the midwest and all of the camps my kids have attended have a no tip policy. Same with sleep away camps. I have no advice re: specific tips, as we have not dealt with this in years.

This! I've never heard of such a thing and I've been sending my kids to day camps for the past 10 years.

I was a camp counselor for 6 years, I can count on one hand the number of times a parent handed my a 10 or a 20 and said have a nice time on your day off. This was 2-4 week sleep away camp.
