I don't hate a cardigan. You won't really catch me wearing anything though- I just don't put that extra layer on at events or parties. Only very occasionally have I been chilly and wished for something. If casual enough, I do love my denim jacket though so I guess I can't totally rule out that extra later. But, for an indoor wedding, party, event...I stick with my dress on its own.

For booties, try the black Vionic Whitney style. 6pm has them. Those are heels I can tolerate. Dressy and comfortable. I’m so happy I own them.

Thanks for the rec! I have fussy feet too, and live in my Vionic brand practically all the time. Was looking for new pair of booties for my upcoming trip to the city! Will it be comfortable for tons of walking though? In nyc?

Op, sorry to derail your post. But no hose, as I prefer not to wear hose. I wear tights under my dress if I’m going someplace very cold to pair with booties or knee high boots if I’m going bare. Otherwise if it’s literally just a walk from car to warm venue, I don’t bother with any.

I live in the snowy north. I don't wear hose or tights with cocktail dresses. If there's snow on the ground I wear a closed toe shoe.

No for tons of walking in nyc. For me, the heel is too high. I would wear Dansko booties for that. Maria specifically.

I think opaque tights with booties and a moto jacket would be HOT. (As in good, not referring to the temperature though it would work for that too, lol!)

Yep, I like the first one (black and plum) with opaque black tights and booties, and possibly a black Moto jacket. Or heels, no tights. You can find them at lots of price points. I got a cognac colored one from Lulu's (online), but you could try Target, Amazon, lots of places.
Actually, I like the red one, too.... might break up all the black better, too.
    Have fun at the party!

I rarely go bare-legged, and I live in CA where it’s very common. I don’t care. Most fashion was designed by, frankly, misogynists who aren’t concerned about the health of your feet. Why be beholden to their fashion “rules”? Wear what works for you. There have been several good suggestions here.
Moto jacket is a faux motocycle jacket.

I completely disagree with your view that misogynists came up with not wearing tights/hose. Throwing out hose was women-driven. I agree with wear what you want, but the number of corporate dress codes that forced women to wear pantyhose on 100 degree days was ridiculous. It was a big step forward for women when we could say you know what, I don't want to wear something just because you can't handle a bare leg. A friend of mine worked at Knott's Berry Farm and she got written up for not wearing hose in 100 degrees when she worked at the funnel cake stand. This was back when Knott's had a Wild West theme so she was wearing a long prairie skirt as part of her uniform...but still had to wear hose because of the ridiculous dress code.

I think the key to wearing booties with a dress, find a pair that cut away at the ankle/like in a V vs straight across, it helps lengthen the leg, as well, if you're wearing it with a dress, I think at least at 2" heel (I wear heels all the time and most of mine are 3" at least), I am blessed with small feet that can tolerate just about any shoe out there, but there are comfy heels out there.
