I always recommend the Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins. "The Underland Chronicles is a series of five epic fantasy novels by Suzanne Collins, first published between 2003 and 2007. It tells the story of a boy named Gregor and his adventures in the "Underland", a subterranean world located under New York City".

I don't remember exactly how old she was when most into these books, but the Dear America series was one that my oldest really enjoyed. She loved historical fiction and the strong female characters, and writing style of this series was very approachable. It's not fantasy though.

For teen fantasy, I offer a very biased view that the series my sister wrote is a great one https://www.amazon.com/s?k=the+twixt...ref=nb_sb_noss

Oh I'm so glad to hear this - just bought the box set from Costco for Christmas, but I hadn't heard anyone talk about them!

Do you happen to remember Costco’s price?
