Default North Carolina Suggestions? College Tours & Asheville

We are planning college visits at UNC, Duke and Wake Forest the first week of March. From there, were are heading to Asheville for some down time. Would really appreciate any recommendations for restaurants and activities. If you have done the college tours, would love suggestions for things not to miss out on or near campus!

Duke Gardens are worth a visit! Beautiful!
411 West Italian Cafe was always one of our go tos in chapel hill. But, we lived in Raleigh so I mostly know Raleigh stuff.

I attended UNC, but SO much has changed since I graduated in 97. Most of what I remember isn't even there anymore.

That said, the main area is Franklin Street, which borders north campus. It's walkable with a lot of restaurants and a few shops. I went to Franklin practically every day for something or another. Sutton's is a fun place. And Top of the Hill is pretty popular on game days. He's Not is still around, but probably not a place one goes with one's parents. lol

I actually wouldn't even bother with those other two schools, especially the one in Durham.

Ha, we are there during the Duke / UNC game and my sons and DH are begging to go, saying it is a bucket list item. Well, seats are $2,500 a pop at minimum, so let's just say that one stays on the bucket list!

Bucket list, indeed! I went to my four when I was in school, and I will probably never get to go back. Just cheer for the good guys. We’re so pitiful this year, we’re accepting all cheers, prayers, blessings, etc.

Hmmm... be aware that — not only are you unlikely to get tickets — this game spills over to the towns, affecting parking, restaurant wait times, etc etc. You’ll be here for the March game, right? It’s at Duke. Since Durham is larger than Chapel Hill, the game may not affect as large an area but the area near Duke will also be pretty crazy. (And if Duke wins, there will be bonfires set on the main quad — in CH, the bonfires are more likely to be in the middle of Franklin St, the main street but in either case, it’s not uncommon for students to try to jump over the fires, with unpleasant results. Probably not what you have in mind as part of a campus tour!!)

ETA: I hope you already have hotel/whatever reservations!

Ninth street in Durham has several restaurants & shops that are a bit out of the ordinary. https://www.discover9thstreet.com/

Along the lines of Duke Gardens, Wake Forest has Reynolda Gardens. http://reynoldagardens.org/ (Basically, Duke & Reynolds were competing tobacco company owners, so if one did something, the other felt like they had to do the same. Down to taking over a college run by their denomination.) You'll also be right by Old Salem and some of the best Moravian cookies around! https://www.realfoodtraveler.com/win...-cookie-trail/

What kind of activities do you want? Things college kids do or things visitors do? Inside or outside? If you don’t have a hotel, I have some AirBNB recs. Feel free to PM me also.
