Grown ups only Vegas trip- suggestions?

Dh is taking me to Vegas soon. He's never been nor been interested in going, I've been once. Favorite restaurants? Favorite thing to do/ see? Mostly plan to take in the sights at the various hotels and casinos. Likely too cold for pools. Not much of gamblers but my sister gave me some guilt free slot playing money.

We have tickets to O.

I was good mentally with a short weekend trip but he booked 3 nights and I am a bit at a loss filling up the time. Debating renting a car or joining a tour to Red Rocks or Hoover Dam but he doesn't sound enamored with that.

Appreciate any ideas. One thing I will veto is another expensive show. Dropped $400 on O and that sure ate up a chunk of entertainment money in my mind.

If you like to hike, I highly recommend Valley of Fire. It’s a good hour away, but it’s way better than Red Rock. It’s more like Sedona.

High Roller is also pretty cool. If fun to go at sunset.

Thanks! I had meant to include Valley of Fire. Have seen it mentioned but haven't researched yet. So renting a car would be a must?

Yes, you need a car to get to Valley of Fire.

We visited Hoover Dam and found it fascinating. Just rented a car for the day. Also--the Titanic Exhibit, the CSI crime lab thing is fun, and we really enjoyed the Mob Museum in old town. Go on a gondola ride at the Venetian. Definitely see O. The M&m store, the coca cola store.

We did the zip line on Fremont Street and it was fun. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, though, and buy your tickets in advance to lessen the wait.

Yes, we did this too and it was fun! DH and I are both afraid of heights and from the ground it looks like the zipline is only like 12 feet in the air, but I was screaming like a little baby and didn't open my eyes till the end! We bought the picture though and it's still framed on my wall several years later!

We also saw a comedy show and a Cirque du Soleil show. I don't gamble at all, and DH doesn't really either, but he'd go down in the morning to play a little while I slept in!

We also ate at Cut which was probably the most expensive dinner we've ever had but it was so good and we had so many servers including one that came to sweep our table with a tiny hand broom between courses!

Las Vegas is definitely a place to bring money. Everything is overpriced and you are encouraged to spend everywhere. Our rooms never had coffee pots in them so you would go down to the Starbucks in the lobby. We didn’t have bottles of water in our room either but the overpriced vending machine was easy to find. So come prepared for that.

That said, I love Las Vegas for the shopping, the food and the sights. Try the pastries in Paris and the desserts at the little boutique restaurant in Belagio. There are so many good choices. The shopping this time of year is great if you live in a cold climate because all their winter gear is on sale and I found a lot to choose from. Most of the hotels have spas and the 3 I went to were VERY nice (Monterey Bay, Bellagio and the Wynn) nice so maybe you could do a couple’s pedicure or massage? So much to see- beautiful aquarium at Monterey Bay, aquariums and animatronics (and good shopping) at Caesar’s Palace, the beautiful fountains and glass ceiling art at Bellagio, the street performers and gondola rides at Venetian. Just strolling around and seeing the sights can be fun (and a lot less expensive). Have fun!

If you have a rental car then definitely buy a cheap throwaway cooler for water, sodas, and beer or wine. It is not uncommon to see people walking in with coolers into the casinos, but if you are staying on the strip you may have to pay for parking at your hotel....you never used to have to but do now at some places.

I really think where you stay should be based on what you plan to do. If you don’t want to be on the strip 24/7 stay in the suburbs. We stayed at the JW Marriott in Summerlin (NW suburbs about a 20 minute drive from the strip....now granted we had the kids with us) but we booked a bed and breakfast rate with a AAA discount and got the breakfast buffet so no need to worry about where to eat in the AM and paying for overpriced coffee in the lobby. We might have had free parking in our rate too (I don’t remember). We were only on the strip for one day to go to the aquarium and putz around so the strip wasn’t our main focus. We easily could’ve added a show and just paid more money to park on the strip. There were plenty of places to eat out there as well. We like hole in the wall places though so relied on yelp and some friends who live in the area.

Red Rocks is pretty relaxing, easy going, and really pretty.

The Red Rock Hotel is suppose to be nice too.

We didn’t go to The Hoover Dam (but I have heard good things) because there had been a wildfire the day before that had closed a portion of the 15 freeway so we didn’t want to get stuck in Vegas or have to go home through the Mojave desert so we left in the AM while the freeway was open.

Hotel (Vdara) is all booked. I like that one for its location plus smoke free and no casino. Parking costs $24/ day. A 1 day (morning to night) rental is coming in around $50 so we will play that by ear.
