Default Salutation on email..never seen this before

I sent an email to my 2 sisters, a continuation of an older email, and I just started into the topic, I didn’t put their names.

One sister who works in technology replied like this:

    Both,
I’ll do that first thing tomorrow etc etc
    Thanks,
    Her name

I’ve never seen “Both” written like that rather than our names or even no names and just writing the response

Is this a new way of addressing multiple people on emails I’m not aware of, as old and out of touch?!?

    I've seen it. I'm old.

ETA: I don't have sisters, but I don't think it's really a family thing. I feel it's more of a work friend thing.

So I think it’s weird to not write 2 names or just not put any names. I’d think it’s weird to get in any email, work or personal. But then I’m old! I’m sure it’s what’s done at her new job.

I've seen "All," on work emails often, but I've never once seen "Both,". Strikes me as awkward.

    It's weird. I agree.

I work in tech, it's new to me! Where I work it would more likely be no names or "All" (which would be weird for just 2 people), their names (which I think we never do in family emails as I think about it), or something like 'ack' (short for acknowledged) or 'got it', 'ok', some sort of verbal affirmative nod. I don't think I could get comfortable using it - it's like talking about someone in the 3rd person in front of them.

Yes, I've seen it (and have been the recipient of such a salutation) in business emails. It's not my favorite. I'm not in tech.

I'm Southern. I'd have used the good old stand-by "Y'all" if I wanted to make sure both of you understood that I was talking to both of you. I've never seen or heard of Both as a salutation.

I've seen it, but more often "all" rather than "both" if addressing more than one person. And I'm old!

I use it in text to my sisters to make sure they get this is a group text and do not reply back thinking it is a text just between 2 of us. I do it because it has happened before, particularly when I've recently being texting with one in another thread text. My friends would immediately identify it as a group, they would not.
