I have not been since the early 90’s, but loved it then. I remember the beaches being incredibly clean and restaurants the same. Thinking of making it a shorter trip this summer with DH and DC.

    Anyone been recently?

It has become a lot more built up, but beaches are still great. Have you been in the summer, its HOT and HUMID, but at least you're at the beach. Shelling is still pretty good, not as good as Sanibel but it's pretty good. Considered off season so may be easier to find a good deal.

If you go, stay where you can walk to the beach. It is 100% impossible to park there. My family has PTSD from the parking situation. It is really crowded.

I’m scared that the island I grew up on (Anna Maria- to the north) is going to be a crowded mess now that TripAdvisor tagged it.

Over Christmas we were there and we literally drove into the island, found nowhere at all to stash our vehicle, and went all to the south end of the island and back off the island.
