I just made one of these from an old t-shirt to wear out to the bank and grocery store tomorrow. By Sunday anyone working or shopping in a store must wear a mask in my state, so I'll place an order somewhere tomorrow, still looking around for quick ship times! I'm not planning on going to the store very often (hopefully can get by with some grocery deliveries), but DH is using his extra time at home to renovate the basement and he keeps needing supplies from Lowes, which is still open here. I'm trying to limit the number of trips he makes (so far about once every other week is all).

What do you mean by form fit? and what is form fit with wire?

Not pp, but when I say "form fit" I mean the ones that aren't pleated, but are shaped for the face. It usually has a seam right down the center of the mask (like nose area). Wire is on the nose so it can bend to shape the mask and make it fit over your nose without big gaps.

That's correct - thanks!! I always think of the form fit masks as the ones that are contoured for the face, and not just the plain pleated rectangular masks.

And this is the exact video I watched to make our masks...I seriously learned more about sewing than ever before watching that video, and I'm a moderately experienced sewer. It made me remember that my machine came with a 1/4 inch edge foot which I'd never used before but now I'm using it! (though I really like that foot that she's using that's a really tight edge). Using fingernails instead of an iron on woven fabrics to crease it...OMG that was gold!!! Her sewing over pins did make me cringe though, but my guess is she has figured out how slow she needs to go to avoid breaking any needles. I did make some mods to her pattern - I made the front part bulge out more (so more space for air in front of nose/mouth), I modified the wire pocket so that I could really push the wire to the very top edge of the mask, and I made the tie channels slightly wider to make it easier to thread a shoelace or ribbon. I also reversed the way the shoelace was threaded so that it ties on top of the head - seemed to get a tighter fit that way. I appreciated too that you can totally watch the video with no sound (she does not talk - all you can hear is the whirring of her machine) and still completely understand what she did! I agree that this is a great general mask pattern that fits very well and is comfy.

Vera Bradley also had face masks. They are sold out right now. The website said restocking soon. https://www.verabradley.com/us/brows...promo_id=masks

Darn, I looked at them too and thought great price for 8 masks!

For those that are getting masks for kids, are you just getting normal adult ones or kid-sized ones? My girls are 11 and 13. I wasn't too worried about getting them masks at this point (they are only out in our backyard or with me walking around the neighborhood and we rarely see anyone when we are out). But if we go to meet a dog for adoption at a foster home or shelter, we should probably all have masks on. At this point, maybe I should try to make us each one, but I'm not sure best size/shape for kids. DD1 is almost the same size as me probably, DD2 still has a smaller face.

I haven't tried these but they are a local company and the masks at least look comfy and easy (particularly for kids) and cheap:

And if you wanted multi-layer "protection" (I say that loosely because these are clearly not tight-fitting masks) you could probably just wear 2 of them! I think they'd work just fine for the intended purpose of helping to prevent spread by being a cough/sneeze/loud sighs guard.
