I agree though that IKEA prices aren’t exactly cheap and for a couple hundred more we bought our crate and barrel table!

We had an IKEA dining set for years. The table was darn near indestructible, but the chairs were pretty junky. They started to fall apart shortly after we bought them. So I wouldn't hesitate to buy the table, but I would look elsewhere for chairs. If you found used chairs, you could easily paint them black to match the table.
