I just scoop some baking soda in the sieve and shake it back-and-forth. Originally, I was only sprinkling baking soda in a thin lines between bricks… And then when I got to areas that were larger it was harder to evenly spread the baking soda, a lot of it would pile up on itself. The sieve just helps it disperse better, into a more even layer.

Sometimes the baking soda from the Costco bag has big chunks and the chunks break apart nicely when shaking the sieve.
