I'm trying to see if Niccig has answered on here. When I read your post I just keep thinking about how her DS was injured at PE in school and how much of a hardship that has become! Good luck on getting that figured out. I really don't think PE should cause anyone pain. That's not a good sign. Let us know what you discover!

I think a podiatrist may not be the best starting point unless it's someone who specializes in sports injuries. Our local ortho office (there are 9 doctors plus PA 's etc) take walkin appts as well as appts in a few days. I wouldn't wait to long.

As well, shoes can absolutely make a difference as well as what surface she is running on.

Yes, we have a walk-in Ortho clinic here too. They have extra hours during football season. I’d skip the podiatrist as an Orthopedist can give a much more extensive exam of her foot, ankle, and legs.

Even if the clinic is a called foot and ankle specialist? I don’t want to waste an appointment if it would be better to see a orthopedic dr

I guess in all my years of both my athletic kids and injuries I feel that an ortho has a wider scope of practice and experience to deal with sports injuries. I'd see if you can get an appointment with an orthopedic doctor first (ours have doctors who specialize in each area, so ankles/lower body, shoulders, back etc) as well as a huge physical therapy dept if needed.

Yes, I agree. My daughter has some foot issues and also just dealt with a broken ankle. We saw an ortho (who specializes in foot and ankle) for both. That office was able to diagnose, treat, fit for an ankle brace and provide PT.
