I still plan on handing out candy. I always handout on my own so no one else will be touching our candy. I plan to wear gloves and my mask as well. I might sit on my front porch as well vs. having people come to the door.

I can't even imagine this. Many things are still closed here, and masks are required everywhere.

We are proceeding as normal. Kids are back in school they are currently wearing masks at school but we are in phase 3 now and there are several lawsuits pushing to get the masks in schools eliminated.

It’s like Florida is conducting its own experiment on pandemic management. I’m glad I’m not one of the guinea pigs but I’ll be curious how things shake out!

    Thanks for being volunteered?

More seriously, my kids are teens and no one comes up my driveway in a normal year and we tend to eat all the candy ourselves. Having said that it wouldn’t say it’s horrid to go Trick or Treating and certainly not the highest risk thing one could do. I DO worry about how people think of risk. I think I lot of people will be, well how bad can Trick or Treating be? Then once they make that decision they will be, well, we are out anyway, and the kids are getting exposed, so might as well get together with 5 other families. Which is so not how risk works, but the human brain tends to be safe or not safe, without complex risk analysis.

IF anyone came to my house I would be out there with a plague doctor outfit! Just for fun. Sadly, we don’t get Trick or treaters.

This Spring, my artistic DGD1 made a very cool plague doctor mask ... which her younger sister immediately donned and crashed a very serious Zoom business meeting! I’ll have to see if any of them are planning to wear it for ToT !!

Our town main village which is near my house is very popular for ToT. The little enclave neighborhood of 50-80 homes that really go ALL out in decorations, as well the fire house in center of that village, said it’ll cancel theirs this year. Normal year sees 1000-2,500 of visitors there from 5pm to 10pm, and the residents don’t feel comfortable.

So we’re not sure. There’s talk of our town suggesting to stick in our own specific neighborhood. Ds1 is nearby 4-6 friends in our immediate area, so I suppose they could but I suspect a lot of homes won’t open up their doors though this year.

I see TorTing as one of the safer activities the kids can do this fall. It’s outside running from house to house across lawns, they will be wearing masks, they won’t be inside with anyone and I’ll make them wait a few days before they eat their candy as a requirement of them participating. I’ll make some fun spider cupcakes and brownies to snack on instead while they wait for any viruses on their candy to die.

My kids are excitedly making plans with their friends to go together.
