Default Are you cooking for Thanksgiving?

I'll stand up and say it - I ordered Thanksgiving from a local chef lol. We've had some of his menus before and it's all been great. Were getting:

    Serves 6-8
    - Fully cooked and deboned Thanksgiving turkey. Brined. Herb roasted. (He had me at "deboned" - yah I know I could make stock with the bones but I also know I won't lol.)
    - Savory sausage & bread stuffing. (love sausage stuffing)
    - Rich Turkey gravy.
    - Mashed potato. Sweet cream. Butter. Gold potato. (yum)
    - Roasted squash. Browned butter. Sage. (yes! Roasted not mashed!)
    - Pumpkin Pie. (meh. I would have picked apple but ok!)

I'm going to make cranberry sauce (3lbs then distribute to family as they demand this every year), either jazzed up green beans or Brussels sprouts and a pecan pie (DH asked for it) and maybe apple squares or something similar bc we'll have two pies.

I feel fine about ordering, I have cooked at least 6 nights out of 7 for the past 9 mos and I will be thankful that someone else is doing the majority of the work!

Anyone else getting this assist this year?

I would totally order premade except I don’t really care for Thanksgiving Food and my oldest has several allergies that wouldn’t work with a typical chef’s menu

We ordered BBQ from our favorite restaurant in KC. I’ll make a couple sides and desserts to go with it.

I wanted to at least keep the tradition of cooking for Thanksgiving since everything else has gone out the window, but after some thought, now I’m leaning toward supporting some local businesses or restaurants who are preparing holiday foods. I’m getting increasingly concerned about how some of them are going to be able to weather the storm and we’re fortunate to be in a situation where our likelihoods aren’t in jeopardy.

Whatever approach you choose, and if you can do it safely, I encourage you to support small businesses when possible!

I ordered a bunch of premade sides and an apple pie. May make an easy chocolate pie and we are going to have steak instead of turkey this year.

Nope. My DH cooks the full Thanksgiving feast from scratch. I shop for the ingredients and he takes care of the rest.

    Turkey
    Ham
    Twice baked potatoes
    Cornbread stuffing
    Baked Sweet potatoes
    Cranberry sauce
    Garlic sautéed broccoli
    Homemade bread
    Pumpkin pie
    Caramel bread pudding

I want to order in, but everyone here is so picky. We don’t need a whole turkey (only 3 turkey eaters), and DH only wants dark meat/legs. Everywhere offering small meals includes a turkey breast. Plus we don’t like green bean casserole. So for most menus, there are a couple things no one would eat. So I’ll probably have to cook it all myself.

    Turkey legs
Stuffing (might purchase this from Whole Foods)
    Gravy (will probably purchase this)
    Mashed potatoes
    Green beans almondine
Spinach gratin (this is for me)
    Cranberry sauce
Caramel apple crisp with pecans (DD is in charge of dessert)
Maybe a small premade pumpkin pie

I might also roast some plain potatoes for DS2. He’s mostly vegan and will only eat green beans from the list above.

We are doing a full Thanksgiving meal, but just smaller portions as it will just be the 4 of us. Normally it is my huge family with tons of cousins running around, so this is hard on DS1 and DS2. I figure preparing a meal will be a way to still make it special.

We are skipping the turkey though!! None of us like it anyways, so I think we are doing a pork tenderloin recipe. But we have a full menu planned already with corn bread, fingerling potatoes, stuffing, something green and lots of desserts, including the Thanksgiving cookies decorating kit from TJs.

This would be my dream Thanksgiving!

OP, I would be PROUD to have ordered Thanksgiving this year. It is all about what brings you joy! Not prepping a huge meal would bring me joy.
