    Default Surgery Cancelled

Ugh! My DH was supposed to have an outpatient eye surgery at the hospital the first week of our winter break. He is a teacher and on a computer all day, so he had no choice but to schedule for our break time due to the recovery. Thanks to covid and our hospital capacity down to 6% they just called and cancelled his procedure. Now he will have no choice but to wait for summer vacation. He was so anxious to get this procedure done, so now he is all bummed and upset about it.

I totally understand why they have to cancel it, but I'm frustrated with all of the people who are still traveling and getting together in large groups and overwhelming our poor health care workers. Just today I had students telling me this weekend they are going to San Diego with their cousins, going to Las Vegas, and another one to Palm Springs. Travel is banned here, but obviously there is no way to enforce it, so the spread just keeps getting worse!

I'm sorry that really sucks, especially when it's so close! I had an elective surgery the week of Thanksgiving at a surgery center (I probably would not have done it if it were at the actual hospital during covid) but I have been wondering if the elective stuff will be cancelled now.

I'm sorry OP. That is super frustrating. Maybe it will be better by Spring Break?

I have to confess in a way I’m a bit relieved, because this was going to be at an actual hospital, and I was worried about the possible covid exposure.

That is what I told him. We get a day plus a week for spring break, and have no plans, so if he could get it done one of the first days, then it could work. He left a message for the scheduling department, but they told him they can’t schedule anything at this point and to call back in mid January.

Ahh, that sucks! I had eye surgery last week but it was at the eye center not the hospital. I hope he gets rescheduled soon!

No!! That’s so frustrating! I hear about all the family get togethers from my students too. “Stay home” must mean something different
