Default frustrated with people's irresponsible actions :(

i have become so disgusted by some people's comments and actions as of late. i want to "unfriend" so many people. lol

i have several doctor friends who posted pics of themselves getting the vaccine. i've also seen these type of posts from healthcare workers/RNs in various health/fitness FB groups. In any case, it makes me so happy - the light at the end of the tunnel, a cause for celebration. I also think it's a celebration of the hardwork of those who worked tirelessly to do the research and also support the manufacturing of it (in such little time). But i was disturbed to see a decent number of negative and *hateful* comments on these posts! People remarking that they just posted this photo to get attention, how they are stupid to trust it, how they are spreading political propaganda, etc. LOTs of comments like this. Um......A healthcare worker working during a global pandemic (who literally risks their lives to help save others) finally getting a vaccine....... and so many roll out ignorant and hateful comments. I get that some are wary of the vaccine, or not everyone can take it.....but i think this goes beyond that. I feel a large segment of our population is hopelessly brainwashed. Maybe that is rude to say, but that's the best way i describe it. The amount of vitriol i see people lashing out right now to Drs getting the vax is just ridiculous.

also, i have several mom friends who keep posting all over IG tons of photos of their holiday parties and social-get togethers. Large groups (think 8-10 families) inside their house, eating/drinking/playing as normal, huddling together for photos, no masks in sight. THey did same thing for thanksgiving. Meanwhile these past 9 months we have been strict with the social distancing and kids have not been going anywhere, and we have not traveled to visit family. My company has cancelled every social event and has encouraged everyone to work from home which i have been doing. Feel like we are the kids stuck with doing all the work for a group project , needing to be the "responsible ones" while so many others go out

what gets me is that not only people have these big parties during COVID, as if nothing is wrong- they are PROUD of it (!)and spread it over social media. this keeps coming back to the brainwashed theory. Why else would someone do this (repeated host large, indoor get-togethers), and be proud if it, if they literally didn't believe COVID was a serious threat, especially in DECEMBER?

i am in TX where the cases are pretty high in our area. From an online tracking tool (maybe NYtimes?) i saw that there was very few open ICU beds left in our county. Yet people roll out with the holiday parties. It just feels so incredibly irresponsible. If that makes me a judgy person, so be it.

I feel the exact same way. I’m in Iowa and people are brainwashed idiots here too. I’m also a vindictive bit€h and kind of want those people to get covid and suffer and maybe learn their lesson. Natural consequences. Of course I don’t want health care workers to suffer. I kind of feel like vaccine priority should take into account people who are being careful and minimizing their risk. Obviously that can’t happen, but it would be fair. I’m so glad DH was able to get his the other day.

I’m so thankful DD’s best friends take it seriously as well. I can’t imagine how hard it must be for teenagers who feel like they are missing out on life because they can’t attend parties.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would move if I were you. I can't imagine living somewhere where people aren't taking things seriously + just the overall political and social climate even without a pandemic going on. I understand that you might be stuck for job reasons and you have my sympathies!

It’s not that simple. Most people can’t just up and move.

I know. Thats why I said that I understand people being stuck for job reasons. I know family reasons are another big one (a lot of people sacrifice to be near extended family). Cost of living, not wanting to uproot kids... but, if things are super sucky then sometimes the balance tips. Most people aren't in jobs that they can't change so it is simpler for a lot of people. Again, for those stuck in places that are endlessly frustrating you have my sympathies and hope things will get better.

eta- sorry for the BP intrusion! I forgot to look at the forum heading before posting. You both, out of all the posters on here, sound just so unhappy with where you live and have for a long time. I know that sometimes people just need to vent though and I'm only seeing the downsides vs the good reasons to be where you are.

You are NOT alone! It is crazy!

I have two friends that are polar opposite. One family has done nothing for 9 months; that includes grocery delivery, ect. This family has no pre-existing conditions, they are just being super careful not to contract covid, I actually wish on some level that we could be more like them. Another family with multiple pre-existing conditions, told by the doctors to completely isolate and they are posting all about shopping trips and parties while claiming they are in "isolation". We are somewhere in the middle, but skew towards grocery shopping, school, and that's it. I haven't seen any friends or family since the summer. DC is in-person school, which is our weak link (but necessary for really complicated reasons), so we are very careful with everything else.

People need to stop posting pictures of dinner parties and holiday gatherings! I need to be able to drop my child at school without having a small "panic attack" every day!

no worries. dh and i already talk about moving to west coast after kids are out of the house. i think i'd love to live in the PNW!

main reasons we are here is lower cost of living and to be near (dh's) family. and, my job (which i love) is here. after March this year though i've been fully remote, we haven't traveled to visited family. though, i am glad to have a big new house during this quarantine - very useful for 2 remote learners + 2 WFH parents.

dh tries to make the point that there is lot of people with backwards beliefs in CA (where i grew up) and other areas too. and i do see his point. the bay area + LA/oc are the main places i'd want to live that have less of that, but then they are more congested and ridiculously expensive, and public schools aren't as great.

the thing with the pandemic that has made things hard that i haven't been able to socialize with coworkers and friends (most with like minded beliefs). they've all been quarantining and social distancing as well. so, any interaction i have these days is limited to social media. which is apparently where so many people tend to repeatedly flaunt their carelessness.

also, i should point out that my perspective is based on interactions of mostly white, Christian women in specific suburban areas and social circles that are rather privileged. Many are SAHMs. They have acted like the shut down orders/3 wks of virtual schooling were an attack on their personal freedom. Different areas in Texas (like Austin, or even Dallas proper) and different circles i am sure are way different.

I just saw a recent trending article from Texas Monthly that perfectly describes the level of privilege and ignorance in this pandemic i have gotten so frustrated with. It is about what some TX wedding photographers have had to deal with during COVID (entitled brides, etc). Worth a read. Sadly, I wasn't surprised by these stories at all.

I'm sorry, it really is a different world.

My cousin lives in your general area. She's a nurse who is currently a SAHM, and does some photography on the side, mostly of families/kids/etc. She's generally a reasonable person! Definitely not some crazy anti-masker, etc. Based on social media posts, she likely voted for Biden. But she just posted some gorgeous photos of her 3 gorgeous kids sitting on Santa's lap and none are wearing masks! It just totally boggled my mind that that was acceptable at all. I even commented on it to a colleague like "WTH are they doing in Texas?" and she was shocked too. It's the same country, but has so many different cultures.

How horrible to have people pooping on HCW's vaccine photos. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

I’m sorry you’re still experiencing that. We had that attitude here especially in the late spring and people treated us hatefully for “allowing the socialists to muzzle us,” or helping spread fear or whatever. I’ve actually seen several of the people who hated on us earlier in the year now themselves wearing masks or fighting COVID19. We are in a small town and cases are high so everyone now knows someone who have had it. I finally see that initial skepticism dying down. But yeah, it sucked when doing the right thing made us the bad guys.

Can you just avoid FB and IG for awhile? I’ve found that avoiding those hateful people is not hard to do and if I don’t have to hear them, I’m a happier person.

yep, my DH's brother and family (in TX) is also very anti-trump, yet every weekend they have been going to amusement parks, visiting (elderly, immunocompromised) family, having get-togethers, going to friends birthday parties, etc. while they do wear masks for outings, i think for get-togethers where food is involved and lots of people in one house (e.g. 15 ppl eating thanskgiving dinner indoors at someone's small house) it is highly impractical and there's just no way to do it safely. i think many people sort of delude themselves that they are being safe for having a mask on for part of the time. i think if you spend 2 hours with 20 people in a small indoor space and half the time you are not wearing a mask and eating across from each other, that's not safe at all.

i think about tx is it really is like the wild west, every man for himself and about the "freedom" to do whatever you want. which i guess i can see the good, but completely falls apart in a global pandemic. i feel like there is very low sense of community social responsibility in a good third of the population here.
