My 7th grader has asked for a textbook to explore Physics and Chemistry on his own. He said Khan academy seemed geared toward high schoolers. Any recommendations? TIA!

Not a text book but my chemistry loving kid has loved this book https://m.barnesandnoble.com/w/eleme...ray/1102421076

I don't have this book so I don't know if it is what you're looking for but I came across it while browsing and it sounds like it might be good for your purposes.

Thanks! I came across this when I did a quick search on Amazon. It says its geared toward high schoolers so I was a little hesitant to buy it. Luckily my library has a copy. We'll check it out at the library first and then get DS his own copy, if it explains things simply enough for a seventh grader.
Not a textbook, but the Mel Chemistry subscription is very good. My 7th grader is enjoying the experiments.
My middle schooler used Conceptual Physics by Hewitt. He also loved reading all of Michio Kaku's physics books (most available in libraries). He also enjoyed How to Teach Physics to Your Dog and the Physics of Superheroes. (My kids likes physics).
Thanks to PP who recommended Michio Kaku. DS spent many a happy and engaged hour during winter break reading one of his books.
It delighted my heart to see him absolutely light up with new ideas. He couldn't stop talking about the interesting things he'd read.
