Default Gift basket from employer: Do I email a thank you or send a thank you card?

I got a holiday gift basket through my employer home delivered last week. It genuinely brought me cheer. My employer does not typically do this. This is a special effort to boost employee morale during the pandemic. Should I email a thank you or send a thank you card? WWYD?

I generally prefer (both sending and receiving) handwritten notes, because it's such a treat to get "real" mail these days. That being said, my goal in this situation would be to make sure the decision maker who chose to send these actually receives your message and knows the gift was appreciated, and I think email might be easier for that. Honestly I think either way would be fine, though!

The typical/expected where I work is either email
    or even text/IM.

I’m all for handwritten for “personal” but would think it a bit over the top to get a handwritten one from someone on my team.

Thanks for weighing in. I'll go with email. It will save me a trip to mail out the card.
