I’ve shared on here about my DS’s college application process and his decision to go to a small out-of-state liberal arts college. The college opted to go all virtual this past fall. Sharing our joy that DS got to move to campus.
The admins decided to invite freshman to live on campus for a shortened semester. DS is SO happy to be there! All the students had to quarantine before and after arrival, they are being tested once a week, class sizes are tiny, and normal welcoming activities are not being held. Even with all the restrictions, DS has found a core group of friends for movie nights and coffee runs. So far, positivity rate for Covid19 is below 2% and confined mainly to two athletic teams.
DS texts regularly and zooms with us once a week. To my joy, he asked to zoom with his sisters. DH and I left the room. We could hear them talking and laughing for an hour- which is more than he talked with them when he was at home!
The only downside is that DS has more quiet/alone time than he’d like during the day. With no campus events, minimal food service (no coffee shops are open on the campus itself and food is to-go only), no cross-dorm visiting allowed, and no spectators allowed at sports, it’s pretty quiet. He’s finding he has plenty of time to study. I expect his grades will be excellent!! :-)
