How is vaccination going where you are?

We're getting a lot of pressure to open up more, including schools, and go to a more "normal" life. However, a lot of vaccine places have been closed for weather. When we got numbers Friday, I was shocked to learn that this push is coming with numbers of 4.5% of the state population vaccinated. (Additional 12% have received one dose.) We are Washington state.

How are the numbers where you are? And where do you think they should they be to open schools and other things?

About 12% of our population has gotten at least one dose of vaccine. A bit less than half of those have gotten both doses. We are at the bottom of the pack in terms of vaccinations. They are opening up registration for people 65 and older on Monday, but haven’t gotten vaccines to all of those 75 and older who want it yet.

We’re on Group 3 of 5 groups with general population being group 5. Group 3 is teachers and essential workers and teachers have priority until March 10. There are still people in groups 1 & 2 getting vaccine as well. Getting an appt is an issue and there are over 7000 on health dept waitlist. Currently the health dept and our 2 major hospital systems are giving vaccines.

Personally my mom has been vaccinated and now we are anxiously waiting for DH’s turn in Group 4 (he has a health condition). I’m hoping this will happen by end of April.

ETA: almost 2 million doses have been given. Dashboard does not indicate what % of population this is but state population is around 10.5 million.

About 13% have received one dose, about half of those have 2 doses. We also have about 15-18% of people have had COVID, so would contribute to herd immunity.

Currently vaccination is open to healthcare workers, long term care residents and staff, and 65+. They expect to move to 60+ next week.

Cases have dropped dramatically, with positivity under 5%. Most schools have been open in some capacity this school year.

I don’t think the infected % will apply toward herd immunity. They don’t know for sure how long you are immune after having COVID but it seems like 3 months has been the working assumption (based on being able to travel without a negative test if you can prove infection and recovery within last 3 months). So only the recently recovered would have immunity.

The original question prompted me to look at our state's covid dashboard, which has lot of the usual data: positivity rate, number of cases, deaths, ICU beds, etc etc. Oddly enough, the only info I found about vaccination were links to find out where and how to get an appointment for a vaccination. I might have missed it, but it’s an odd omission.

I think in my county, we have 15% with first dose. Very hard to get appointments right now.

The NYT has a good vaccine tracker if you are interested in the state by state stats. Around here it’s slow but ramping up. They’ve moved to vaccinating 65+ recently which made over a million people newly eligible and the indignity of people who couldn’t get an appointment the first few days it was open was ridiculous. I know we all want to be vaccinated quickly but I have no idea where people’s logic is going. Everyone is also certain that things are super easy in state X (often FL in discussions here just because we have so many snowbirds). Anyway, slow but making headway considering the low number of vaccines the state gets each week.

Looks like the data shows up under vaccinations on it, it just takes a while. https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/dashboard/vaccinations Looks like we're around 10% for 1st dose for the state as a whole and maybe 5% for second dose. There are some counties at much higher %ages, but they're also the more rural areas with 1-10% of the doses given as the larger counties. I also wonder how they're calculating the population who has been vaccinated. I know in Franklin County, we had a lot of people crossing county lines from Wake for vaccines. So is the % vaccinated in Wake counting those people or is the % vaccinated in Franklin County artificially raised?

Thanks! I totally missed that. And you’re right — all the county level Covid data raises questions about whether it is County of Residence or occurrence. But it at least points out differences among variousparts of the state.
