So many people I know thought they knew what they wanted to do as they started med school, but then found that something different really peaked their interest. Yes to this. You generally need a residency in internal medicine to get fellowships for cardiology, GI, oncology, endocrine, infectious diseases, pulmonology, etc. Surgery has lots of specialty options as well. Family practice doesn’t offer additional opportunities. So that’s it for you. So unless you want to go into family medicine, I wouldn’t recommend foreign medical school. (Even PAs and NPs have better specialty options). I don’t even know if foreign medical grads can get any sort of residency now
