Default Meniscus tear and negative MRI?

DS is having some pretty bad knee pain and his knee locks almost every time he stands up from sitting in a chair. The PA felt pretty confident he has a meniscus tear. The MRI results came back and didn't show one, but he still feels fairly confident that's what the issue is. He says sometimes an MRI will miss a lateral tear. We go next week to the sports med specialist where I'm guessing they're going to want to scope it? Has anyone ever had a meniscus tear that didn't show up on the MRI?

DH did. But it was military medicine so who knows. It took them over two years of telling him it was "tendonitis" and giving him motrin to even order the MRI (after he basically demanded one.)
