    Default Dandruff treatment for tweens?

My 11 year old has always had mild dandruff and had terrible cradle cap as a baby. It seems to be picking up again now. Any recommendations for an effective shampoo or other treatment? Trying not to use any thing too toxic or chemically. Thanks.

This stuff works really well, although it doesn’t smell great. Make sure it’s rubbed onto her scalp WELL: https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Th.../dp/B00IXHXT0U

T-gel and shampoo brush. You might even try JUST a shampoo brush first to see if that takes care of it: https://www.amazon.com/Shampoo-Massa..._dp&th=1&psc=1

And agree with being careful with chemicals in shampoo...even our pediatrician mentioned this - for developing girls he said to avoid most salon brands as they tend to contain endocrine disruptors. You can check the EWG database for shampoos that score well for reproductive toxicity.

My son’s dandruff cleared just with the shampoo brush!

Thank you all, and especially for this warning. It's been a big concern. We've been using Jason dandruff shampoo which is marked a 2 on the database, but I'm still nervous. I will buy the brush right away!

DD and I use this one Vanicream Free & Clear Medicated AntiDandruff Shampoo Maximum OTC Strength Zinc Pyrithione 2%, Pyrithione zinc, Unscented, 8 Fl Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WD8YQKL...ing=UTF8&psc=1

I suggest getting the silicone shampoo brush (learned about it here on BBB) to massage the scalp after using this and leave it on for a few minutes.
I also like using this scalp exfoliating product once in a while Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal and Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo - Scalp Scrub Treatment to Soothe a Dry, Flaky, Itchy Scalp, 8 Ounces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XNYHNQ3...ing=UTF8&psc=1

We didn’t want to go straight to T-gel for DS, so the dermatologist told us to try head and shoulders. It worked great and he only needs it occasionally after we got it under control.

Dd2 is currently occasionally using Nizoral. She has been using Head and Shoulders for a few years already and sometimes works and other times it doesn’t. She has used both TGel, and TSal and she liked the smell of the TSal better, but I decided to try the Nizoral this time and so far so good.

When I researched this a few years ago I learned that kids who had cradle cap and/or eczema usually respond better to T-SAL than t-gel. In these kids it often not really dandruff. Definitely worked here with once a week usage.
