Default Shaving legs—do you shave up or down?

While googling first razors for dd, I came across how-to shaving articles saying to always shave in the direction the hair grows—so shave going down. I have always shaved starting at my ankle and going up. Is that not normal? I thought that’s how everyone shaved so now I’m curious. So...do you shave up or down?

Also, if anyone has a recommendation for a good first razor, please share. I use the Venus razors and don’t know if there is anything out there better for beginners. Thanks

Default Shaving legs—do you shave up or down?

I’m looking for exactly the same thing for DD who is 12. I’m worried about nicks to be honest and have been wondering about waxing. Waxing is not without pain but atleast there are no nicks.
Also from my own personal experience, the men’s razors are so much better compared to any marketed to women. So I was considering ordering a Gillette men’s razor for DD to try. Sorry I guess I don’t have answers but I’m glad you asked.

I've always shaved going up, from the ankle. I started out with an electric shaver at age 10 and think that's a good choice since you can shave outside the shower.

    Always going up.

Can't recommend Billie razors enough , order online, choose the frequency you want replacement blades. They work just as good as the more expensive razors.

I go up on my legs because I have never had trouble with ingrown hairs. Bikini line I go with the grain because of ingrowns.

I've always shaved up. My legs would not be smooth if I went top to bottom. I feel like most modern razors are much better designed than those of my tween/teen years and cuts are less likely.

I started out at age 10 with a battery-operated Lady Remington and, after reading the directions that indicated I should shave in the direction of the hair growth, I found that to be ... utterly useless. So I've shaved against the growth since I started shaving.

Ideally, shaving with the growth means you'll encounter fewer ingrowns because you're not cutting the hair at the follicle/skin line, but if you have thick or dark hair, the "ideal" method quickly shows itself futile, so you start going against ... and looking at products like BikiniZone and TendSkin to help with the inevitable irritation, bumps, and, yes, ingrown hairs.

ETA: I'm currently using 4-blade Dorco razors, but I like products like Intuition and Venus w/built-in shaving product when traveling - it's one less thing I have to source/buy/bring.
