Were they testing weekly like LAUSD was?

I'm sure LAUSD will have a lot of cases because they are testing regularly and picking up any asymptomatic infections. I don't know of any other districts that are regularly testing and I'm sure parents would only get their kids tested if they came down with actual symptoms.

We had 229 in 4 weeks of summer school, but only 306 in the spring which was twice as long and double the amount of kids attending.

Contract tracing. There was spread to multiple people in one classroom and that happened 11 times during summer school. One probably caught it outside, and then brought it to school. Vaccinated teachers also caught it during summer school.

Were they testing weekly like LAUSD was? Obviously if no one is tested your case count will be zero!

School starts next week and we just got a new update today. All of our county schools are following the same plan.

    - masks required on school buses
    - masks not required elsewhere
    - quarantine rules as follows:
    - If exposed and you're vaccinated, you are recommended to mask for 14 days following unless you develop symptoms which then you obviously have to quarantine
    - if exposed and you're masked same recommendations as if you're vaccinated
    - if you're not vaccinated or masked then you quarantine

If we had universal masking there would be no quarantining. Now, someone please tell me how any of this makes sense? Who is going to monitor who's masking because they were exposed, who' was wearing a mask on what day so they know if they have to quarantine, etc. Wouldn't it just be easier to mask?

I don't have kids in it, but know others who do and I haven't heard of any outbreaks in our summer school either. I know masks were optional, but don't know anything about # of kids or spacing.

Again, I'm pretty sure LAUSD is the only school district in the nation who has been testing every single student and staff weekly for months. If you've heard of zero cases in your summer school programs and there's zero testing going on, wouldn't you expect zero cases?!? You're not going to get any positives if you don't test! The fact that LAUSD has detected so many cases shows that covid is actually pretty rampant. In other parts of the country where testing isn't happening regularly, I'm sure the only cases being picked up are in kids that actually come down with symptoms that are worrisome enough for their parents to actually get them tested. In reality, that's probably only a tiny amount of positive cases. Even if my kid was asymptomatic, I'd want to know if they were positive just to keep them away from more vulnerable people like grandparents over 80, who even when vaccinated, have a much higher chance of not doing well if infected.
