I appreciate the information! I hadn't realized that the 2 books are so similar. I think it will be fine though. We are reading The Giver of Stars next month
and then we aren't reading The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek until next year. They tend to quickly forget the book once they've read it.

I thought The Silent Patient was a fun beach read, but I honestly don’t think there is enough there for a book club. There are themes of mental illness and artistic temperament, but I just thing the book simplifies the themes and gets some of it wrong. There are better books for those themes.

I think a fiction book that has climate change as a theme would be great addition to a book club. Here’s a list of a few, I’ve read flight behavior by Kingsolver, which I liked.

I think The Windup Girl and an excellent book, but might be a little too science fiction for some. It also has a graphic rape scene. I thought the themes of genetic manipulation and climate change were there and interesting, but not preachy, just part of the background. It had a very William Gibson Neuromancer or Blade Runner feel to it.

I read If I Stay by Gayle Forman in 2014 and I still think about it. The sequel is not as good IMO.

I recently joined a book club and we read The Push. I was not very happy at the ending. And I thought it should have had a trigger warning. But there was alot to talk about.....

I read it earlier this year. It's a bit disturbing to read, as a mother, but very thought provoking and would be good for discussion.

I recently LOVED "the Music of Bees" by Garvin.
    https://www.amazon.com/Music-Bees-No...1668205&sr=8-1

Editing to add other books I loved last year:

"Where the Lost Wander" by Harmon

    "One-in-a-Million Boy" by Wood

    "The Widow's War" by Gunning

My whole book club loved "The Rent Collector" by Wright. THis one is loosely based on a true place/event.

"Flight of the Sparrow" was a great discussion, super interesting story based on a true person/event.

Also, the books of Catherine Ryan Hyde are good, usually have some complicated storyline that make them very readable and probably good for discussion. I suggest "Have you Seen Luis Velez?" or "Allie & Bea"

I read this one a few years ago; parts of it reminded me of Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund, but I enjoyed it a lot more. It might be a great book to discuss in Corie's book club at some point!
