Default Crosspost: Dress me for a wedding!

This is a huge step for us irt covid, but a childhood friend of Dd is getting married! Iím close to her mom, also. Ceremony is indoors so we will go masked or maybe miss it but the reception is outdoors in the fall. itís a late afternoon/early evening event in a potentially chilly place on the CA coast. Iíve never been to an outdoor wedding like this (where weather is a big factor) and need help dressing for it!

I think I wear a 4 petite or 6 petite and can hardly find anything on Nordstrom or Nordstrom rack!
If itís chilly, I guess I should wear long sleeves. It might be awkward to wear a shawl the whole time.

    Any ideas?

    Maybe something like this:https://www.eshakti.com/shop/Dresses...source=regular

You can change the sleeves to a three quarter sleeve and the length to appropriate for the occasion as you see it, and give them your actual measurements to help with fit. Plus they have a matching mask.

I'd asked in your other post and will ask here- what do you anticipate the dress to be like based on the venue and any details you have received? Are you thinking cocktail will be appropriate and just need to make it comfortable weather wise? Or do you think it might be more casual? I have been to plenty of fall outdoor weddings on the east coast and tend to be of the "suck it up" mindset and wear a cute cocktail dress and just deal with being a bit chilly. Most other guests dress the same way too. Once the dancing starts, it's all good.

It’s a formal venue at a resort so guests will be dressing up.
it’s been so long since I wore hose, but if I wear a short dress I might have to resort to that as my legs get cold lol
I don’t have a long formal dress but that would help, I guess. Maybe I will go with the shawl, after all, jic it’s intolerable.

I have been to a few coastal weddings since ďno hoseĒ have been a thing and tbh I have been fine. Consider wearing a maxi dress as well. I would bring a shall or wear something with 3/4 sleeves. Remember there will be lights outside and most likely there maybe some of those heaters as well. It will be dark by 6:30 at the latest (if not most likely by 5:30 then).

Look on Nordstrom .com and NordstromRack.com for dresses. Also donít discount JC Penney or Talbots.

Have you considered Rent the Runway? I have had great luck with that service.

I also think if you wait a few weeks some more fall stuff might come in.

Also I would wear a mask and attend the service.

ETA: if it helps the weddings I have been to have been at Calimigos Ranch-Malibu (in October), a ranch near Pebble Beach (in January), and Malibu Wines-Malibu (in May). I wore sleeveless ones to all three. I usually do take a black wrap but end up rarely wearing it. Not sure if those are anywhere near where you will be but I donít recall being cold at any of themÖeven the one in Carmel.

I saw a few of the dresses that Snuggle Buggles posted as well but I didnít link them because they werenít petites; but I like the first one she posted and Nordstrom offers tailoring so I would definitely take that into consideration. Also the one with the $570 price tagÖ.there are a ton of dresses like that on RTR.

How cold do you think it will be? 40-55 degrees? 50-65 degrees? My Wisconsin ideas of chilly is probably different than yours. My idea of dressy is probably different too. Will there be dancing? Dinner? Or just cocktails and appetizers?

If the temperature will be between 40-60 degrees or drop down there after dark, and you will be outside for more than an hour, I’d wear a pretty long sleeve dress (either a midi dress or knee-length) with a similar length dressy wool coat. If you search for “long sleeve dress” on Nordstrom’s website a ton of different option pop up. If you don’t want to buy a wool coat, you could rent one for the weekend. I’ve heard several moms here say Rent the Runway is a good company to use. You could dress up the coat with a silk scarf and brooch or something shiny. I think the British and Scandinavian royals are masters of dressing up in cold weather. This article might give you some ideas (ignore the white-tie dresses): https://www.townandcountrymag.com/so...fashion-style/.

Sorry it’s such an old article but there just hasn’t been a lot of dressy events for anyone in the last couple of years, especially the royals who I suspect are trying not to flaunt their wealth and jewels during a pandemic. . Meghan Markle has some great dressy coat moments. You might google her name for inspiration.

If the temperature is going to be in the high 50’s or warmer or there will be dancing, you can forgo the wool coat and wear a warm shawl. I recommend cashmere for the warmth and dress-up factor. If it’s high 50’s or low 60’s I’d still wear a long sleeve dress (and probably something with wool in the fabric).
