I guess it's a group of MDs in academic medicine, still in clinical practice, with a high % of pediatricians (cause pre-pandemic that's who was thinking about vaccines a lot). People who applied for this position never thinking their meetings were going to be live tweeted and articles written in the NYT. I'll try to have a bit more grace from now on.
An important observation, and I suspect lots of others have the same idea. Just for fun, I looked through both the current membership and those from the past decade. I’ve been retired for long enough that I knew more of the earlier ACIP members but have met at least one of the current group. And I’m quite sure they were never expecting the amount and type of attention they’re receiving.

It'll be a while before she's eligible for a vaccine but just wanted to point out that breastfeeding antibodies will be gone after 6 months, with no adaptive immunity or memory unless she's actively infected with the virus. Having said that, breastfeeding is the absolute best way to protect her right now!

Well DH and I got ours today. The pharmacist at the CVS gave us kind of a dirty look and asked if we were teachers or doctors. I just answered truthfully that we were neither but both qualified based on CDC guidance (DH has 2 of the risk factors and is over 50. I just have one risk factor). They gave us the shots. YMMV big time when it comes to this as it's essentially honor system-based.

I only saw 2 other people there for boosters. I am not convinced that we REALLY needed the boosters but in the end it came down to "well, we live in an anti-vax, anti-mask state, will be traveling for work (which for DH entails entering hospitals for pediatric transplant patients), have kids in a mask-optional/opt out for any philosophical reason school and elderly family members, one of whom got Moderna and so has to wait. So, gonna go ahead and protect ourselves the best we can since we can't rely on others." It's a selfish way to think and I hate it.

I hate thinking that way too, but sounds more realistic than selfish.

I think I could technially qualify, but I got Moderna so I will be waiting regardless, which I am fine with at this point.

To quote Andy Slavitt, "Why do people need a third shot? In part, because you refuse to get your first." You're not being selfish, IMO.

Default If you’re eligible, are you getting a booster?

I’m getting it Monday afternoon. I work with elementary students who can’t be vaccinated and then on weekends work at a pediatric hospital with patients who may not be wearing masks (some can, some can’t). I’m not worried about myself getting sick, but getting someone else sick. The schools have not been great about informing all staff who are a close contact. Admin forget staff like me are in/out of multiple classrooms. I was close contact and no one informed me. Found out later from student why they were out sick.

At my school the teachers have made several comments about how our specialists and specials teachers are not being properly notified. Heck, twice I have found out from one of my parents that there was a case in another class of my grade level, before the teacher of that class even was notified! And then one of my grade level colleagues tested positive and didn’t tell us, and the principal was not allowed to tell us either, even though we would be close contacts (she also is unvaxed and will be out of a job in a few weeks, causing our classes to balloon to 27 students each, but that is a separate issue). The district keeps bragging about the safety measures, but their covid dashboard is not updated in a timely fashion, and is not even close to being accurate, plus it doesn’t even keep a running total. They are not notifying people at all, and are so overwhelmed, they keep giving the overworked principals more jobs to do. My son’s middle school has had over 30 cases this year, and we stopped getting those notifying phone calls by the second week. I’ll give the district credit for the testing, but otherwise they are a mess!!

I had such a severe reaction to my 2nd shot, my doctor says no to a 3rd dose. I’m going to get my flu shot this coming week, and will just have to hope for the best. So far my class has been okay, but I know it’s only a matter of time before it hits my class.

My coworker (we are therapists who work in a nursing home) went to CVS to get the booster, she is 53, has an autoimmune disorder (can't remember which one), is very overweight, has a blood disorder, and they really gave her a hard time, saying she wasn't over 65 and didn't meet the criteria. She eventually got it, but it took some convincing, I mean she of all people should get it (as an aside, she is a smoker and keeps saying how she wants to quit and has been very covid cautious and sort of judgemental of some of us who have been doing more social activities, all within cdc guideline but gosh if covid doesn't spur you to quit I don't know what would.

My husband and I are healthcare workers, but we were given the moderna vax. It was not our choice which brand, because weirdly all of the vax we have given to patients have been Pfizer with a small number of JJ. When moderna puts out a booster, yes I will get it, if able.
