I saw multiple people with sleds in their carts at Costco today. We probably won't have enough snow for sledding until at least December. But people know that if they wait til it actually snows, Costco will have the lifejackets and sun hats out, with sleds nowhere to be found. I agree it's totally annoying.

Yep, way too far in advance! When I was getting more pencils on Sept 1 the store was in the process of taking down the back to school stuff - and putting out Christmas lights! They actually put out two rows of Christmas lights and decor before they put up the Halloween candy.

Years ago, I worked in a multi-department store and they starting playing Christmas music ON Halloween! Staff rebellion, and they waited until the next morning... but at 4am on November 1st, Christmas music.

The term "seasonal creep" has entered the chat ...

But, yes, I totally agree. The fact that you need to start planning in April/May so you're ready to purchase in July/August is not only inconvenient but also frustrating as all heck.

Today I thought that some autumn/Thanksgiving decorations would be fun to buy. Yeah, after going to five different stores, a sales associate told me to begin looking in JULY. Because it's all sold out. Everywhere. And it's September. I'm thinking fall is still Oct/Nov, no? Forget it. Back to my crotchety, lazy, no decorating ways. hmph.
My husband wanted to look for Halloween / Fall stuff this weekend. I told him not to hold his breath. We looked at four places and bought nothing. Home Depot, which in our area usually has a HUGE HUGE section of stuff only had like one small sad shelf. It wasn't like it was picked over, it was like they never got anything and dug this out from the back somewhere, or they got one small delivery of random stuff that didn't coordinate at all. I was there a couple weeks ago for something else that there wasn't an area set up then either. Target had displays out still, but it was picked over to about nothing. I get it, the supply chain is jacked, they are probably more focused on stuff that is more important than Halloween decor, but it is still a bummer when you get the itch to change stuff up.

I was able to get a few things from the dollar store and At Home last week, but not a ton. Instead, I decorated my front with $2.99 pumpkins from Aldi and some mini pumpkins that were 10/$10 at a local farmstand.

Last year I went to At Home in early September and there was a ton of stuff. I went back the first week of October and it was gone and replaced by all Christmas stuff. I thought it was just my area, but I guess not (and there are only seven At Home stores in California….last year I swear there were less). This year I bought some Halloween mini lights from Target, the giant light up spider, two ceramic pumpkins for my kitchen garden window and that was it.

As much as I hate shopping for Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving especially table linens there was nothing last year so I am probably going to have to get some of that really soon. My Target had none in store last year.

This thread made me start looking at Christmas items--which feels positively distasteful this early in the season! But if I wait until it is actually an acceptable time to get Christmas decorations I'm sure it will be too late! I keep seeing all these dire headlines about worldwide shipping issues. This post actually serves as a pretty good wakeup call! (I'm just looking for a new door wreath if anyone has any leads. I used to love getting a real boxwood wreath from TJs but they haven't been there since 2018 so I'm not going to chance it!)

I've ordered my last few door wreaths from Etsy. Preserved, dried, etc and not fresh but I've been very happy and the sellers have been lovely.

I ran into Lowes this morning to pick up a few things I needed. The Christmas section is fully stocked but I felt the same. Just too early for me to get into the fun of Christmas decorating when I'm still working on my fall decorations.
