Default Identify these bumps/rash on DS2

DS2 (12) has these odd NON-itchy bumps on his elbows and knees. He said they showed up a few days ago. He did have a fever and headache for one day this past Monday (neg Covid rapid test), but nothing since then. I feel like he's had these bumps once before but they went away. Does anyone have any idea what they may be?

Hmm, looking at pics online it seems like it may be lichen nitidus? For which there's no treatment and it goes away on it's own, kinda like molluscum contagiosum.

    My first thought was molluscum.

He's definitely had molluscum before and this isn't it.

DS1 had something like that when he was about 10-12 years old. I can't remember what it was called but the doctor told us there wasn't anything contagious and just keep moisturizing, he'd grow out if it. And he did.

DS-14 had this before. I think some sort of generic dermatitis....he has my super sensitive skin and if I recall correctly we just kept it clean and dry and it went away after a few days.

I have bad allergies. Sometimes I think I'm on the wrong planet! I get bumps like that from crawling on wool-based carpet. Also from new laundry detergent (that's where the cloth rubs). It's a bit annoying for a few days, but clears on its own.

Update: So I'm pretty much certain DS2's rash ended up being hand foot mouth disease! He had a fever and headache about 3 days before the rash showed up and the rash then lasted exactly a week. What tipped me off was that DS had 2 or 3 tiny red spots on the palms of his hands and I know most rashes never affect the palms. Nothing inside his mouth, but he did have a few red spots around his mouth. Apparently it's not uncommon for the rash of HFM to occur on the elbows, knees, arms, legs, and buttocks (which is what DS ended up having). I called his doctor to see if they wanted him to come in, but they couldn't get him in for several days so it wasn't worth it.

Because DS is darker skinned, his rash didn't look like a lot of the photos online of HFM that only show white kids and adults, who tend to have a lot more redness. For anyone who is a POC or have kids who are, I found this awesome Instagram account that shows all photos of common rashes and dermatologic conditions in darker skinned individuals. So eye opening to see the differences and highly recommended! https://www.instagram.com/brownskinmatters/

I can see this now in your 3rd photo!

It’s been about 9 years since my DC had this but they had spots on their knees, feet, and palms also. No mouth involvement if I remember correctly. I’m thinking back and also remember learning HFM is caused by multiple viruses. Glad you found this helpful site.

Glad he's better now but it is insane to think images of all the conditions are rarely shown on brown skin. Like the fetus in utero picture drawing. HOW in the WORLD is that not a common image?
