Default Kindle vs Kindle Paperwhite life span

Would like to replace my Kindle, which lasted for years but eventually died about 2 years ago. In searching previous threads here, I see lots of love for the Paperwhite, and I probably would enjoy being able to read in the bathtub. But I also saw mentioned that it only lasts 2.5 years. How does that compare to the regular Kindle?

I just checked my Amazon account -- I bought my Kindle Paperwhite in 2015 and it still works great!

Default Kindle vs Kindle Paperwhite life span

I have had 4 Paperwhites since June 2015. My first one the screen cracked in like the first three weeks and I requested it be replaced. I don’t think I had it in a cover yet. Amazon replaced it but I was told to “put it in a cover.” The second one lasted 2/1/2 years and it just stopped charging in 2018. The third one (February, 2018) was replaced just over a year later in April 2019 when it too stopped charging as well (although I honestly think it may have been dropped and even though it was in a case the inner workings got messed up). Kindle 4 is now 2/1/2 years old. My current one is the waterproof version. I do use it occasionally in my pool but never in the bath as I am not a big bath taker.

My kids kindle paperwhites are 4 year old and 3 years old and get way less use than mine does. Dd2’s is refurbished.

We have 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 all in heavy rotation and work fine. I traded in a second 2015 to get a discount on the 2020. Worked fine but I wanted the waterproof version.

Ours are in cases and I’m pretty sure they last longer than that. I’ll ask DH. My kids read 30 days a month with them, so I’m pretty okay if they need to be replaced more frequently. The one in my car says 130 weeks in a row it’s been used. It’s not mine…because I read BBB not books

My Paperwhite is from 2015 and still works great. Had a cover on it from day 1.

We have a bunch of Kindle fires from 2013? forward, they work fine, but the kids stopped using them once they got phones, so I can't remark on their longevity as much.

Default Kindle vs Kindle Paperwhite life span

I got my first Paperwhite (2nd Gen!) in 2014. It was still working fine in 2018, but I wanted some of the newer features. I handed the old one down to DGD1 who appreciated it (although she’s also a big fan of actual books).

ETA: both old and new have been in cases since day 1 (as have my various iPads, phones, etc ).

I've had 2 and they have never stopped working (I think the first was around 2015.) I am trading the older one in for a discount on the newest one.
