We use Kirkland free& clear. I can't tolerate any smell on any laundry products. DS1's socks and sportswear smell awful, so I add about 1 cup of baking soda when I wash his stuff.
A few years ago I bought oxyclean at Costco thinking it would help but I didn't realize that it has a very strong scent that I can't tolerate at all so the box is sitting unused and I don't know what to do with it

Does anyone have a problem getting the musty scent out of synthetics? Admittedly, DS2 is sensitive to well, everything. He still refuses to wear a long-sleeve synthetic sun shirt he wore canoeing for a week TWO YEARS AGO. It gets washed every week but he says it doesn’t smell better. Each week we sort through the baskets of laundry that just got washed and he smells it and chucks it back into the dirty hamper. It just doesn’t smell clean despite the repeated washings. He wants to throw it away but what a waste!

i use 7th Generation detergent hoping it’s gentler on the environment as well as our skin. But it’s not been great about getting our synthetics clean. I’ve also noticed that my Athleta pants smell funny even right after washing. I was actually thinking of going back to Tide which my mom used to use because she said it got white clothes sparkling clean. I also loved the scent but maybe I need to try unscented…

Default S/O: Which Detergent Do You Use?

Whatever tickles my fancy honestly so that usually ranges from Tide Free, Gain Regular, Persil Sensitive, or Arm and Hammer. I haven’t been able to use regular Tide since I was 18….due to Accutane use, and it also aggravates my kids eczema and dh whose mom used Tide religiously and still does gets itchy skin now when his clothes are washed in it. I have used All Free Liquid in the past but for some reason if I use All I like the regular scented one with Oxi Clean better. I prefer powder to liquid honestly but I haven’t seen Tide Free powder in years. I usually buy what I can find on sale or at least get a $ off coupon for at Target or what is on special at Costco if I happen to be there (as long as it isn’t Tide….because they usually don’t carry Tide Free). I used to use Kirkland Free for years but the last reformulation (in 2016?) caused me to breakout in hives. I have tried Charlie’s Soap, Bio Kleen, and Seventh Generation, but I always felt like my clothes didn’t get clean enough so I switched back to conventional detergents.

I also use Oxi Clean powder, Bac Out, Borax, or Clorox 2 discs for extra whitening on light colors. I still use bleach on whites (so mainly socks, and DH’s undershirts). Dd1’s dance uniform (similar to a cheerleading uniform) gets washed in a 5 gallon bucket of Oxi clean and comes out sparkling white (I hate that is all white, but at least the Oxi Clean works!)

Tide Free and Clear. We'd been using the liquid since DD was born 17 years ago but switched to the powder a few months ago. It's a little messier than the liquid but I think it may do a little bit better job and I'm happy to avoid the plastic bottles.

I have also used Ecos liquid, both scented and unscented. The scent is relatively light.

We use this! But have only JUST noticed that my boys stinky laundry sometimes comes through still...stinky if I'm not careful! I will try adding a cup of baking soda. Maybe that will make the difference.

I can't handle any kind of laundry scent. We get a lot of hand-me-down clothes and aside from issues of general cleanliness I can't wait to wash them to get off the laundry smell! I never smell it on people--only clothes but after using unscented I can't handle the regular stuff. Can barely walk down that aisle at Target even when I'm wearing my mask, lol.

Offer it on your local free share site. Someone will snap that up and get it out of your house!

I always get unscented / fragrance free anything for our sensitive skin and eczema family. My fav is Persil free and clear but I don't go to Target often, so I also buy All Free and Clear or Kirkland Free and Clear (made by the same company that makes Persil) if they're on sale at Costco.

I add a cupful of vinegar and or a cupful or baking soda to stinky stuff. I also use the Lysol Sanitizer almost every load (the regular one doesn't seem to bother our famiy so i get it at costco, but i also buy the fragrance free version at target).

I have this additive to use in place of the Lysol sanitizer i got when i thought my workout shirts were still stinky. I think it works well:

Tide Free. No scent, it's the white bottle. Even All Free bothers us. We don't do scents.
