    Default Alternative to Penzey’s

So I know that Penzey’s has been supporting causes like BLM and other liberal causes but their last email
campaign this week really rubbed me the wrong way. I won’t go into it because this isn’t the political thread, but I don’t know if I can go on supporting them when they are making blanket statements that in my experience are just not close to being true. I will keep using what I have but I feel like it is time to find an alternative. I have been using Trader Joe’s spices for years as well but sometimes their selection is limited compared to a shop like Penzey’s.

Your Whole Foods or local natural food store may sell spices in bulk- you just fill a baggie (provided) or bring your own jar (if currently allowed at your store- check their policies for instructions). Spices bought by weight like that are so cheap! I would check any ethnic grocers as well as they may have the same set up (but possibly more limited spice selections).

I had a similar reaction. You are not alone in your feelings.

I just started reading Kitchen Creativity by Karen Page which said The Spice House is popular with chefs around the country. I don’t have any personal experience but it sounds like a good place to look.

Spice hunter is local to my area but I believe available in markets outside of here. (And yes, I also was taken aback by some of the blanket statements in the P. email)

We tried the Spice House in the past year and were not impressed. I liked their packaging but the spices, at least what we bought, were not as good as Penzeys.

Since I’ve never used Penney’s r Milk Street’s spices, this suggestion may be off-base, but I’ll throw it out there as an option anyway:

Whole Foods and TJs are good, I get spices from Oaktown Spice locally, but they also ship
