Atlanta hotel just north of downtown?

We need a room for 4 for 3 nights. We will do some downtown stuff and some East cobb visits. It’s been a long time and I’m not sure what areas would be great for going to some things downtown and not cost much…and still be nice enough. Anyone been to Atlanta recently? DD will be at the Hyatt regency but it’s a bit more than the rest of us want to spend to listen to her orchestra play

May not be much help but last year DD and I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Buckhead (near Lenox Mall) for a few nights and it worked fine. It would be pretty convenient to downtown. If you want to stay further out, maybe the Sandy Springs area?
