    Baking soda would soften your water if you have hard water. We only have smelly clothes if DH uses the "normal dry" option where clothes are not extra dry.

    Thanks for the great ideas!

    As far as hard water and baking soda, I am not sure if my water is hard or not. I googled and see some signs and not others, but I don’t think I can use baking soda in my washer as it’s a water saver and I don’t feel it put enough water in the drum (which I hate) to dissolve the baking soda . I did read that vinegar works for hard water as well and I love using vinegar so will start putting some in the wash. With ds, though, he is only going to remember a certain amount of steps when he does his laundry so probably not going to be a regular thing for him.
