    Default New Orleans with teens

I'm starting to plan a few day visit to New Orleans the week of Thanksgiving. We'd probably get there Sunday in the late afternoon and stay 3-4 days. I think I'd like to be back on or near DS1's campus for Thanksgiving dinner. He can show us around that day and Friday and I don't want to cut that time short. But if there is someplace fantastic for dinner in NO I'm open to that too.

So...looking for ideas that are fun for the teenage crowd. Where to stay and eat, which tours to do etc. I was there for a weekend in college so basically know nothing lol.

    Thanks!

Here is my trip report from a week in New Orleans. 2 adults, but take a look to see what things the teens might enjoy

Our family, with teens, loved the day we visited two plantations (Oak Alley and Laura - both very different from each other and educational), followed up with a swamp tour! We considered taking a tour including all three but, preferred the price and flexibility of a one day car rental. We booked the car last minute, no problems, walked to the rental from our hotel.

Our favorite meal was at Shaya, get reservations. https://www.yelp.com/biz/shaya-new-o...sq=Israel+Food

Café Du Mond for beignets… beware the birds in the rafters. There may be another café that is higher rated for beignets… We got both one day and did a taste test. :-) Both were great. https://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-du-monde-new-orleans-21

Homewood Suites worked out great for us, it’s on the edge of the French Quarter. Great walking location.

Taste test beignets and find the best in the city.
I haven't been with teens but the cemetery tours were interesting.

Were the cemetery tours scary? Wondering if my tween would be ok.

Not at all. Maybe a ghost tour or something would be but a daytime historical tour was not at all.

These are some of the things we did and saw when we went during the week of Thanksgiving several years ago. DS1 was 13 at the time. We did an official French Quarter tour but I'm not listing it because it was a kids' tour (DS2 was only 8 at the time). With teens I would do the WWII museum with the 4D Beyond All Boundaries movie (watch the movie first when you arrive), Mardi Gras World behind the scenes tour, and the plantation and swamp tour combo.

    The French Quarter

    Cafe Du Monde (long lines)

Cafe Beignet (no long lines and beignets are just as good or better than Cafe du Monde. Coffee is better too.)

    Jackson Square

    St. Louis Cathedral

    The Arts/Warehouse District

    National WII Museum

Uptown/Garden District (Take St. Charles Streetcar to the Garden District)

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 (tours daily at 10:30am)

    Audubon Park

Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World behind the scenes tour

All day Oak Alley Plantation, Laura Creole Plantation, and Swamp Tour

If you do want to do a cemetery tour, book it in advance. The at the door prices were really high in comparison. We used Free Tours by Foot- which is great! We tipped about $20 each (was with friends) so not free (but it technically could be). This was for a cemetery/Garden District walk.
We did a walk up cemetery tour at a different cemetery.
