Default Flu vaccine in a teen with egg allergy?

DS is 16, has confirmed egg allergy via blood test in the last few years, he can eat some things with egg in them, but if he notices a 'tingly' feeling he stops eating it (like a cupcake etc), but has never had an anaphalactic reaction. He has an epipen for peanut/egg allergies, has never used it.

He has state insurance so all vaccines are through the health dept. In the past they said he couldn't get his flu shot there due to egg allergy, as they don't have a doctor on site.

He has been so sick, just recently had influenza, so I want to get his flu shot.

The internet is vague on this, and the health dept doesn't seem to have much info on their website, and calling them has been challenging.

Would you get a flu shot (if you are a parent who gets flu shots for kids) with an egg allergy? Bring his epipen obviously. Not even sure they will give it to him, just wish they'd let our ped do it. He has had all covid vaccines, and gardisil vaccine, with absolutely no issues, we vax on time and as recommended.

DS2 has an egg and peanut allergy (diagnosed when he was very young) and has no problems with the flu vaccine. When he was first diagnosed, we had to do it at the allergist during a special clinic where they would monitor him, but after a few years, he could just get it at the ped. office. We used to have to wait 15 minutes after the shot, but now he can just leave as he has never had a reaction to the vaccine. This year, DS2 got it at Wegmans. I told them he had no issues with the flu vaccine. The pharmacist told me that there was another flu vaccine they can give to people with allergies if necessary.

What I have heard/read is that the current flu vaccine is safe for egg allergic individuals. DS used to be allergic to egg but is not anymore.

Call around. You can probably find the cell-based vaccine, which is egg-free. Our pediatrician stocks this one. There's some data to suggest it may even be more effective. It's the one we got this year (and we don't have egg allergies).

My nephew is severely allergic to eggs and his allergist insists he gets one. He's never had an issue and just sits and waits a little bit. There is also a shot that is not incubated in an egg I believe if that would make you feel better.

Thank you all, we are limited to getting it at the health dept due to medicaid insurance, but knowing others from here have had it makes me feel a lot better.
