Default Hotels in Rome and Florence

We’re planning a trip to Italy over the summer. It’s been several years since we’ve been. Any suggestions for hotels from people who have been there more recently?

    Thanks

We did Airbnbs in both. Let me know if you want to hear about those.

    We stayed here in Florence.

We’ve stayed here and here in Rome.

The first was a great location. We rented an apartment affiliated with the hotel. We were nervous about being in a country where we didn’t speak the language and not having a concierge to help with reservations and transportation. Great location! We walked everywhere on that trip. If we needed a cab, we would walk to the hotel and they would get us a cab. The second was a beautiful hotel but we had to Uber everywhere we went. That trip we knew we could just Uber wherever we wanted to go and didn’t need to speak Italian except for pleasantries.

I’ll come back to post Rome info.
Was this with kids? If so, did you get 2 rooms?

DS1 and I stayed here in June of 2019 and liked it a lot. Great location, fabulous views from the roof top bar and the room was comfortable. https://www.hotelpontesisto.it

Yes, with kids when they were little. We had a large suite and they brought in two beds for the kids. One on each side of the room which was funny because they were used to sleeping in the same bed. They did their usual bedtime banter across the room. We are now firmly in the two room category. We had to get two rooms everywhere when we were in Spain over the summer. DC didn’t want to be alone or split up so I stayed with them when we didn’t get connecting rooms. We’re planning the same for Portugal in spring.

Thanks everybody for the recommendations. They all look great places. We need to finalize dates this week for the flights so I can start booking the hotels

Here is my trip report for Venice, Florence, Rome with recommendations for Airbnb. Don't stay where we did in Rome. I would recommend onefinestay for Rome. We used them in London and they were great.
