Default Just for fun- gift ideas for nursing student on 12 hr shiftd

My niece is in nursing school and is about to start her 12 hour rotations through different hospital departments. I like sending her care packages now and then and want to send something to congratulate her on reaching this point. She?s had a bit of a tough route getting here and now is on a great path to graduate next May.

Any recommendations for great ear plugs? Eye mask? Any other ideas? She?s very girly, loves pink, and is very selective about what she eats/drinks so snacks are out.

I'm about to start my hospital clinical rotations soon and these are a few things on my wishlist:

A badge reel is also a necessity. There's a million out there and you can even get personalized ones.

Thank you! This list is very helpful. Even if it spoils the surprise a bit, I'll check with her on the clipboard and if she needs one will order one for her.

I've already gifted her badge reels of her favorite characters, and school supplies.

When I was trying to research this on Reddit it was freaking me out a bit- too many responses were like, "stethoscope, but don't keep it around your neck because a patient may try to choke you with it." Or, "these scissors, but hide them so a patient doesn't try to stab you with them." Don't like thinking of my niece and eventually my daughter in these situations!

Yes, stethoscope around the neck is a safety hazard and also causes neck strain. We were told to put them in our pocket or use a stethoscope clip: https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Stet...1zcF9hdGY&th=1

For stethoscopes, I have a Littmann Lightweight from nursing school that is still going strong. They are lighter weight than the classic ones.

My mom worked 12 hour overnight shifts as a nurse. She would bring a meal, 2 snacks and lots of drinks. Does she have a generous insulated lunch bag? Nice socks, good lip balm, and hand moisturizer for dry hands from all the hand washing would be good too. Or bath bombs so she can relax in the bath at home after her shift.

What about a gift card to a running store or footwear store that helps people select the right sneaker? If she’s on a college student budget, she may not want to spring for expensive comfortable sneakers so the gift card could be a huge help

    Nurse here...

You are so sweet to think of your niece. Nursing school is tough and time-consuming, especially when you add in clinicals so I'm sure she will appreciate what you do. Everyone has their own organizational system and preferences so it's hard for me to recommend that type of thing.

    What I would suggest:
Fun socks - scrubs are plain and often mandated by the school or hospital. Everyone likes fun socks to add some personality
Compression socks - harder to pick out since they can be personal preference but I'd still appreciate a basic pair of knee height
    Personalized cute lunch bag
Nice personalized water bottle to take along
Gift certificate for a pedicure - relaxing after being on your feet so much
Hand lotion - dry hands from washing so much - I'm partial to Aveda (I like their foot lotion too) and philosophy
Gift certificate for a local healthy restaurant she likes to grab dinner on the way home when she's tired

DS3 is currently doing 2 -12 hr shifts as a scribe while at UF prepping for med school. A couple gift cards for what ever fast food is on her way home. Sometimes they are to busy to eat or he doesn’t feel like eating what he brought quick drive through on the way home
Jeana, Momma to 4 fantastic sons

Everything happens for a reason, sometimes the reason is you're stupid and make bad decisions
