    Default Canada...East Coast...

We are thinking of heading to Canada this summer for a short trip.

Originally, we were thinking PEI, but that is looking less appropriate since we have a family member who does not like beaches/ocean trips. Now I am thinking Nova Scotia, but have no idea where to start.

    Any suggestions?

PS We are more small town, explore by bike, small museum, lots of outside time...

hmmmm I still remember the Bay of Fundy as a really cool thing to see. But if this person is not beaches/oceans, maybe look at Montreal/Quebec or Toronto? I have done both of these as adults and really enjoyed it.

This is the trip report for Montreal/Quebec

And this is the one for Toronto:

Another vote for Montreal / Quebec. We had a wonderful time exploring both cities.

Love Montreal. It's well serviced by trains so you could stay some time there and continue onwards to more nature spots.

We love PEI! We aren't really beach people either, but we did enjoy walking on the beach and the kids liked bodyboarding in the waves. We had Anne of Green Gables fans in our group (several families travelled together), so we visited the Anne museum and saw the Anne of Green Gables musical. We also explored Charlottetown and went to a lobster supper. Definitely check out Cows Ice Cream if you are there (they also have locations in Nova Scotia)! We also really enjoyed Nova Scotia. We spent most of our time in Halifax, but went on a day trip to Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg. There's lots to do in Halifax and it's very walkable (though hilly outside of the waterfront area). We went to the Citadel, the Public Gardens, Maritime Museum, Discovery Centre, Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, Harbour Hopper boat tour, Alexander Keith's Brewery tour and saw an outdoor theatre production (https://www.shakespearebythesea.ca/).

If you did Toronto area you could do a day or weekend trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Very bikeable area, in fact, they offer wine tours by bike. Quaint small town with a variety of shops and restaurants, the Shaw Festival (theater), Fort George, a beautiful park, and for those who do like beach/water in your group there's stand up paddle boarding.
